I have a 4 year old cat who never goes outside and is not around other cats. I've noticed recently that at times he seems to have a horse cough. Is there something I might give him for this?

It's possible, but not likely. Especially if he hasn't had any contact with other animals. Kennel cough is an airborne disease, but it only travels 10-12 feet from the infected animal that is coughing it into the air. This is why it's called "kennel cough", in kennels animals are only a few feet away from another so this disease can spread very easily in a kennel. With kennel cough, the trachea is very irritated, so if you rub on his neck he will go into a coughing fit, and the cough sounds like croup or a goose honking, very distinct sound.

Some other things that can cause coughing: feline asthma, heart disease, hairballs, acid reflux, certain parasite infestations (capillaria and roundworm)-these are in no particular order, just as they came to mind.

I think they have to catch it off other cats/dogs in order to get it but I'm not 100% on that one.
Take it to the vet to be on the safe side.
