Hi, i am visiting Edinburgh on the new year's eve and new years day. i check on the internet, there are six major events on new year's eve(
http://www.edinburghshogmanay.org/whatson/ ). most of them need ticket, which one is the best? i want to enjoy a massive countdown and the fireworks, not a big fan of drinking.

one more question, we are staying in stirling on 31st (late booking, plan was to stay in edinburgh), shall we drive to edinburgh, or take a train? what time is the last train service?

Thank you.

is "The One O' clock Run" a fun event to take part in as well?

If you want to see the Hogmanay fireworks and don't have a ticket to the street party, perhaps the place to be is Calton Hill (towards the east end of the city centre) - you'll get a clear view of the castle from which the fireworks will be launched, and you'll be on raised ground so you'll get a great view of the city. One other place is the Meadows, or Bruntsfield Links to the south of the city centre, again with clear views of the castle albeit on lower ground.

Driving to Edinburgh for Hogmanay wouldn't be a good idea as roads will be closed and traffic a mess with diversions. Parking would be a nightmare too.

I'll try and find the train timetable, but you can have a look for one yourself. Try the First Rail website.

the street party is a must once in your life. But to be honest if you go with friends you´ll prob lose them, some people get over aggressive and it is always uncomfortably cramped. The pubs in the center always have good banter and is much friendlier then the street party. The Tron pub is always a definite good time with friends and a party after wards is always a bonus. In general though Edinburgh is the best place to be in New Year. Unfortunately for me i´m on holiday abroad this year so i´ll be missing it. Have a good one!!

definitely go to the royal bank street party - but good luck with the tickets. my friend studying in edinburgh scored us tickets weeks in advance. you will enjoy a big countdown and fireworks. the fireworks come from various points in the city so you will see lights coming from all directions. and someone did bring up a good point - if you go with friends, you will most likely lose them and spend a big chunk of your night wandering through drunks to find your friends. be prepared and armed with phones or an agreed meeting spot. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!

I would say the street party in Princes Street if you are lucky to have a street pass.
If not, l would recommend one of the bars in George Street but you will need to get there early before you need a ticket to enter the area.
Check www.firstscotrail.com for train times but l think the last train to Stirling will be very early. Or you could try www.scottishcitylink.co.uk for bus times.

If it was me, I wouldn't have bothered with Edinburgh at all, you could have stayed in Stirling, and watched the fantastic Deacon Blue, live from Stirling Castle, on Hogmanay..
or like me, head for the FREE concert in Aberdeen, headlined by the finest white soul, pop band EVER to come out of the UK.. the superb,Wet Wet Wet.
Oh Btw, whatever you decide, there is NO place like Scotland.. to PAAARRRTTTYYYY on Hogmanay..
Take Care..
Mark.

If you are not drinking and are not staying in Edinburgh overnnight, Park your car in one of the streets out of the city centre and take a taxi.
Princess St. party is the favourite, hope you have a wonderfull time.

Try http://www.thetrainline.com for the train times.
Aren't all the tickets already sold out?
Usually they sell out within hours of going on sale a couple of months before the event.
