Jesus Christ did die on the cross for sins, but you have to be truly repentant to get forgiveness. Just because somebody is in prison doesn't mean they can get away with the crime. The law of the land is you pay your debt for that crime, but if while in prison you do repent you'll get forgiveness, spiritual forgiveness. It does say in the Bible if you owe a debt, pay it.
