So how do you all deal with this? We all know he was born in the Spring, not near the Winter solstice--which was a pagan celebration co-opted by early Christians.

When He was born isn't as important as how he lived and died then rose again.

True, Christ probably was not born in December -- we don't really know when He was born.

It's also true that the day celebrating His birth -- Christmas -- coincided with a pagan holiday that was widely celebrated in the ancient Roman world.

That was probably done in order to discourage the early Christians from being tempted back into their old pagan ways.

It's not true that Christmas was really a "co-opted" pagan holiday. It just appeared around the same time on the calendar.

I live in Japan, and the Emperor's birthday falls two days before Christmas -- but that doesn't mean the Emperor's birthday, which is a national holiday in Japan, has "co-opted" Christmas. It just means that it happens to be around the same time of year -- that's all.

Back in the early days of Christianity, being a Christian could get you killed. The Roman Emperor Constantine changed that and proclaimed that Dec. 25th will be the day that Christians celebrate the Nativity.

nope! your are correct.
the catholic church first made a decree that Mass of Christ would on the 25th of december. I think it was either the third century or the 6th century when they did this.
at any rate we have christmas now which the season was started out as a pagan holiday of drunkenness and lewdness.
I think it is better to devote the season to family values and remembrance of christs b'day in honor of God giving US the give of his son for our atonement

The same way we now deal with Presidents Day.

When I first started working I got both Lincoln and Washington off, now they cheated me out of ONE of them!

Easter, by the way, wasn't on the day or date he was actually ressurected, except every 100 or so years when it coincides exactly.
