Gold is a metallic element with a characteristic yellow color, but can also be black or ruby when finely divided, while colloidal solutions are intensely colored and often purple. These colors are the result of gold's plasmon frequency lying in the visible range, which causes red and yellow light to be reflected, and blue light to be absorbed. Only silver colloids exhibit the same interactions with light, albeit at a shorter frequency, making silver colloids yellow in color.

Metallic yellow with a hint of black in it. As long as the atoms stay intact it's color still gold. After that, the question gets unrelevant, because the material isn't gold any more and I have never seen what color protons and neutrons are.

Pure gold is bright yellow.
To make jewellery gold is never used pure because of it's ductility. It is always mixed with other metals.
Depending on wich metal is chosen, the colour changes from yellow to pink to gray.

When you scratch off some flecks of gold, they should look yellow. If they're black or some other color, the gold is fake. For example, iron pyrite (fool's gold) scratches off black.

naturally, gold is the shiney yellow colour, it is treated to make it any other colour, which is the reason white gold can go greyish after a long time - ie it;s not natural
