He needs to speak to the DVLA to confirm his driving Status as once over 70 you are supposed to take a 3 yearly medical to assess your fitness to drive

A normal driving licence is valid until the day before your 70th birthday. You have to re-apply every 3 years after that. The process will include you filling in a questionnaire bout your health (eyesight, disability etc) but you won't have to sit the test again (I guess it's very different now to whwn you took it?)

Good luck and Merry Christmas

Forgive me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure that if you pass your test before a certain year then it is for life. They then, at some point, brought in a rule about reapplying. I am afraid I can't be any more helpful than that but I am sure if he passed say when he was 17 and he is coming up for 75 then he needn't do anything.

You have to get your GPs approval and a letter from them to send to the DVLA when you are 70

Think it's at 70 years old, so they can test your eyes and whether you still have all your marbles!
