Now I'm not a doctor, but when ill, people instinctively cover themselves in heavy blankets, whether it be a cold or the flu. I would advise AGAINST this. A "cold" is a cold, but maybe not literally. If I remember correctly, the worst part of the flu is the fever. Manually cooling yourself, either through a cold drink, ice pack, or cold bathwater may be effective. Do not allow yourself to overheat. It is true that an ill person should be kept out of the elements, but throwing a bunch of blankets on them and turning the heater up full-blast is what probably causes most fevers during illness. Oh, and then the next thing is usually intensely hot soups to couple with the other conditions. Not a good combination. Soup is fine, but keep the rest temperate.

Fever is the elevation of your temperature from normal and is only a symptom of something else , so you cannot "prevent " it. You would need to prevent whatever it is that is causing the problem and if you could do that you would be a billionaire.
