As long as you are not having regular bowel movements and continue eating you will gain some temporary weight. But once you go that should be corrected.
If you are on any medications, they dry you out and constipate you severely.
You can help this by taking a stool softener daily (not a laxative) and drinking Prune juice or eating dried prunes. They are an excellent laxative.
Vegetables are roughage and they allow things to move (if you know what I mean) They allow for air pockets and avoid the impaction. It is ghastly.
Good Luck with the problem. and have a Merry Christmas.

Yes and no, but mostly no. Let me explain.
If your are constipated, obviously you will be a few pounds heavier on the scale, but that is soon to be remedied when you finally do go. So I don't consider it "Real Weight". However if you are always saddled with that "extra weight" of BM's yet to be evacuated from your system, try some type of gentle, natural safe laxative such as Psyllium Husks with Acidopphilus capsules that you take at night with a tall glass of water and you will take care of business in the morning most assuredly.
I said no mostly at the top because in no way does having a full and bloated colon, prevent nutirient absorbtion in the stomach and small intestine making you more prone to actual weight gain.
So I write the following without any attempts at vulgarity or disrespect to you, but rather for your well being when I say:............"have a Shtty Day" :-)
Good luck!

RE:
Can being constipated make you gain weight?
I know its a gross question, but does someone who doesnt have bowel movements regularly tend to gain weight because of all of the waste that stays in the body?

They do say you should weigh yourself after going to toilet! So a subtle difference in weight, yes, but not the cause of gaining weight.
Constipation is more likely to lead to someone being overweight as often constipation is the side effect of something else- IBS, wheat intolerance, allergies etc and someone suffering these symptoms is likely to feel seriously fatigued and unable to physically exercise.

some babies dont gain weight as well as others, if hes happy and healthy and your doing what the doctor recomended for his constipation there is probably no need to worry if there are concerns about his weight gain the health visitor or doctor would bring this up with you and recomend things to help him gain weight, if they have not done this they are probably not concerned about his weight at the moment. remember you know your child best and you would notice if he became unwell or was behaving different to noramal trust your own instints

Possibly, but more to the point, constipation can lead to far worse gastrointestinal problems, or may be a symptom of something else, if your diet is healthy. If you are having trouble "going to the toilet" I suggest that you start drinking far more fluids, to soften the faeces stuck inside you, and encourage them to move down your guts and eventually pass out of your body. If this is still not happening, I suggest you visit your GP and request an OSMOTIC LAXATIVE such as LACTULOSE which will help kick start your guts into gear. The doctor will also give health promotion about how to help prevent this in the future.

I am often constipated and the body does retain fluid when this happens! Once I didnt go for a week - it was a horror!!! First holiday with my boyfriend (now husband despite the mishap) and I had to buy some "special chocolate" to ease the problem!!! I nearly had an accident! I managed to get to a toilet on the second!!!!

I was shy, I didn't want to be the centre of attention, I didn't like getting my picture taken. Yes, I had to speak in public, and that was because it was for my job. So I would get up there and I would speak, .but I really didn't want anyone to really be looking at me.
Since I've lost my weight, it's more like look at me, look what I've done. And I feel good about myself. I bought a new wardrobe. I get up there, I speak in front of people, and it's fantastic. It's the best thing I've ever done in my life.
