Friends of ours 12 year old son, got a hiding from his father 3 nights ago. I happened to see bruises on his calf, and asked him about it. He showed me his thigh, which was black and blue and more bruises all over his legs from the hiding he got. His dad used a slipper. Is this allowed and what do I do. He doesnt often get hidings but this is bad.

NO.

This is NOT allowed. Ask yourself, is that type of thing appropriate??? Get the boy some help, he's a kid, he shouldn't have to go through that and kids can't fight for themselves against parents like that. If the father did this, what has he done in the past? What is he capable of in the future? Often or not, once is enough, any more than that is even worse. Get the boy some help. There are laws to protect children for this very reason. Too bad there wasn't a witness like you that was there to see things that happened to me, please say something.

Every parent has a different method of disciplining their child but beating them is not the answer - these bruises sound pretty bad but don't jump the gun, how can you be sure there are from his father. Keep an eye on these bruises if you can and continue to be a shoulder to cry on. If the brusing continues or they become more frequent and violent then perhaps you should alert the authorities. Perhaps a quiet word with the parents would be an idea aswell - just to be sure you have the story right, you dont wanna go and report someone for child abuse if it isn't actually happenning.
Just keep an eye out, dont be overly nosey but be aware.

Report the father, and let the authorities figure out what to do next.

Any grown man who is capable of beating his little twelve-year-old son should be reported. Report this bully before the bruises on the boy go away.

There was a little girl in New England, and the parents kept beating her and beating her. Nobody did anything. People said she hurt herself. She ended up in a coma after someone beat her with a baseball bat. Don't let this young boy be someone who ends up in a coma because his father is an aggressive imbecile.

I don't know how good a friend you are with this guy, but it kind of takes the joy out the relationship when you see his cowardly "handiwork", doesn't it..

It is never ok to hit a child and leave bruises. I am all for spanking when a child needs one. And yes, in my opinion sometimes they need a spanking. However, what you are describing is child abuse. And it is your duty to call child protective services and save this child before it gets any more out of hand. Leaving bruises all over his legs is not an acceptable form of punishment. I would like to take a slipper to his fathers legs. Good luck and God bless****

Hi Kevon, This is not allowed no matter what. You need to report that bastard to the police, and child protection services. They will take pictures of the boy,so they can use them in court. If i was you,i would not let this child return to his dad. Next time he may not be so lucky. That's what i would do. Kids like this needs protection from abuse parents. If other people would get involved in things like this, alot of these kids would be alive today.

I guess the 12year old son would be old enough to talk bout abusing. Try to figure out what really went wrong, perhaps u could befriend with his dad and talk to him bout it. Give the child a way to contact u easily, so if ever his dad abuse him again, he could call u up and i guess the only way to solve it ..is to report to the police. Child abuse is not allow in anywhere. It's a sin to abuse the kids...

No, this is not allowed. There is no reason why a grown man needs to use a weapon, even a slipper, to inflict physical harm on a 12 year old boy. You decide what you are going to do.

Call your police department - ask for social services to check it out. Remind them to protect your identity. The bruises from the punishment are enough to warrant.

what is a "hiding" and why is a slipper allowed and where is it allowed? Are you in the USA? If you are, you have child abuse and child endangerment all twisted.
All I can say is what the f*** are you thinking!!?? Error on the side of saving that child!!

How can you sleep at night?
