boot up in safe mode by hitting F8 just before you'd see the windows logo screen right when you turn on your computer. select safe mode
when it boots up, open my computer. right click your C drive, click properties. Go to tools, select check disk, select both check boxes, and click scan now. it will say it can't scan and it needs to reschedule duriing the next boot. Click yes, then restart your PC
let the check disk finish, keep doing that until it says there are no errors. if it takes more than three times take it to a repair shop.

Check whether the memory is available both in
Hard disk &
RAM.
Check for any Virus.

When u start the machine press the shift key of F8 key and go step by step, and see if any problem is visible.

Ifallthesedonotworkgetthe FORMAT DONE & INSTALL XP
Scan the Disk & defrag the hard disk
Clear the Recycle bin
clear any unwanted files from the temp dir, from the XP directory.

Do a Full formatting on your harddisk before you install the new windows copy. IF you already did that, then I think you need a new windows CD.

It shouldn't be the problem of Windows XP, you better send your PC for hardware checkup.

th problem lies in corrupt MBR. just go for a clean format of your hard disc & then install your XP along with latest updates. i problm still persists, format gain & install XP from a different CD, just to make sure that your CD is corrupt but not your Hard disk.
