Any living organism is an integration of matter and its vital functions, including its kind of consciousness. Consciousness is an attribute and function of anything that is living. A rock has no consciousness because it is not living. An insect's consciousness is the result of its particular sensory system, which is developed just enough for its particular method of survival. Consciousness in higher animals is the result of increasingly more complex neuro-cerebral systems, which in humans produce self-consciousness, conceptualization and imagination.

The "I" or "ego" is a linguistic symbol that distinguishes the process of being conscious of oneself (the subject) from that of being conscious of everything else (the object).

There is no life without consciousness and there can be no consciousness with the physical body which produces it.

Good question.

Unless thinking is outlawed in your society, I think you ought to give it some thought.

The 'I' is that ego in u . the ego which makes u feel that i want this, i want to be rich , i want to be beautiful , i want to njoy this world....'I' is the feeling in U....ur body is jus the object. It is only that "I' in u which makes u feel . when that 'I' ness is removed from the body , the man is declared to be dead.

Your soul
Your "self"
Your ego
The little voice in your head, perhaps?
Your soul leaves your physical body when you die, so the "I" is probably your soul.
