How old is the puppy?
First 30days as per his needs.(liquid-semiliquid)
Till 2 months every 2 hours= 12 feeds.( liquid-semisolid-solid)
Till 4 months every 4 hours=6 feeds(include chewy things-bones.No chicken bones.)
Till 6 months every 6 hours=4 feeds
Till 9 months every 8 hours=3 feeds
Till 12 months every 12 hours= 2 feeds.
Mind you the changes should be made gradualy.
These are major filling meals.the puppy may need a snack inbetween if over exercised.
Also a lot of fresh clean ,cool water must be available 24 hrs for him.
Adult dog one major feed a day.

At the beginning, follow the breeder's instructions; puppies need more food than adult dogs. At nine months, most of them start to eat heavily (normally at noon), or two light meals (one in the morning, the other in the afternoon). This last regime is more suited to small dogs. Nevertheless, the main point is to develop a system convenient enough for you and the dog. For instance, do not stop feeding the dog at noon during several weeks, and then, suddenly change your schedule, this could disturb him.

Basically we left food in our dogs bowl when he was a puppy allowing him to go to the food bowl on his own accord.
We still do this today, he is now 2 yrs. old. Anytime he is hungary, he has his food/water there available to/for him.
My dog is a Lab.
