Rechargeable batteries lose their effiency for storing power over time, so leaving them charging when they are fully charged will maintain the reduction in their efficiency. Nothing will blow up, but you should try to keep an eye on these things whenever you can - better for you and better for the environment if you don't leave things switched on needlessly.

It's most likely a "FLOAT CHARGER", as the charge on the battery increases, the voltage drops off down to a trickle on the charger, 6 hours is o.k but don't leave them stored in there on "CHARGE" for days or weeks, this will shorten te battery life, every time that you charge a battery, it's life span shortens a little bit.

most chargers these days rely on a timer they contain internally so that they will stop charging after 3 hrs or whatever the chargers rate of charge is. If it is an older style or cheaper charger then they will overcharge the battery which will dry the battery cell out from overheating, a small fire risk exists but it is small. However what will hapen is that you will damage your battery.

I spent an entire weekend away worrying about my battery charger which I had left on.
When we got back it was quite hot but it had stopped charging once the batteries were full.
I don't think yours will explode but if you are really worried and paranoid then why not put the plug on a timer if you have one?

No, they wont. And you're not wasting electricity either because once your batteries are fully charged they don't draw anymore power. And also, a protection inside the battery disconnects it completely from the power supply once it is charged so it doesn't overheat or anything. Perfectly safe...

No they won't if they are regular batteries, however charging a car battery can if you don't let the hydrogen out of the fluid in the battery - which is where i think this urban myth comes from

It depends what type of battery it is.
There are batteries that can't be overcharged.
If its in the guidelines of your product then stick to them.
Perhaps in this case its due to the amount of heat build up that could cause a problem.
Just buy a plug timer.

No not likely to happen. To over charge and heat takes a long time.
