i have had acid reflux for a little over five years. i changed my diet as instructed, i eat diiner at 6 and go to bed at 10, to give my body enough time to break down the food. i went from 165 to 145, becuase people told me maybe it was my weight. my dr. put me on 30mg of prevacid. but nothing seems to be doing the trick anymore. at least once or twice a month i wake up vomitting or nauseaed. what else can i do?

Daren A just doesn't understand what you are going through. Some folks (you and me included) can change their diets and the symptoms still appear with regularity, even though we are being medicated.

The suggestions others have given are what I'm thinking it is. I took Prilosec and it did nothing to alleviate my symptoms. I am on Prevacid now but it is only working moderately. I am about to go in to see a gastroenterologist to see if this is more than just GERD and why it is so bad now. I suggest you too see your doctor and ask what other avenues are availble. I have no problem taking the little pink pill, but I want it to work if I do so. I'm ready for a switch if that is what the doctor decides.

Try elevating the head of your bed slightly. You may even need to prop yourself up a little with pillows so the acid doesn't come all the way up. As far as medication goes, I have had better luck with Prilosec and for a period of time my acid reflux was so bad that it was damaging my vocal cords and the doctor had me taking Prilosec twice a day instead of the usual once a day and also taking 20 mg of Pepcid twice a day instead of the usual once a day dosage. This seems pretty aggressive I know, but under my doctor's supervision it was successful so you might want to check with your doctor and see if that course of treatment might be worth trying for your particular case. Good Luck!

Acid refulx is 99% diet related. All the medical community wishes to do is add another pill. Trust me, east a mostly vegeterian diet, no soda, lots of organic teas, small meals, nothing too heavy, stay way far away from red meat and daries and your problem is gone almost instantly. A mostly raw foods diet of natural grains, veggies, etc will solve it overnight also. Hope this helps. Most people don't want to hear this because Americans do not like to change their diets, but this is the cause. Eating fast food, processed foods and high fat foods sits in yout stomach for hours if not days reeking havic.

You will have to ask your surgeon that after which come again and let us know seeing that now you've us curious. I dream while I over devour (I now not have acid reflux disease) so it kind of feels fair to feel that manner.

I took Nexium for my acid reflux during pregnancy. This purple pill was a life saver! Talk to your doctor about a change in medication.

I know it is more expensive now that it has been taken off the prescription list and is supposed to be more available...But...Have you tried Prilosec? It worked for me but is three times more expensive than when it had to be prescribed by a doctor and I don't buy it.
