Okay.... This is my question..
I downloaded a landscape program from Shareware.com and when I go to open the file it shows the "piece of paper with a magnifying glass" icon and says " Click the program you want to use to open 'Bryce5FreeVersionPC.zip'. If the program is not on the list, click other. Choose the program you want to use:" and it lists several programs and, of course, the "ok", "cancel" and "other" button. But what I'm confused about is which program it needs to be opened with. I've tried everything listed and it keeps coming up saying it's the wrong program... etc etc. I've even tried programs from different parts of my computer.. not just the listed. If anyone knows what this program needs to run on please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. The icon for the downloaded program continues to stay the "flying windows" icon until then. heh.
Thank you again, Nichole

It sounds like you may not have zip handling built into your operating system and you need to download a zip tool.
Try downloading and installing the free version of this one

The alert comes because you are opening this type of file for the first time or your system could not find the appropriate program for the kind of file you downloaded.
as you mentioned your program name as "'Bryce5FreeVersionPC.zip' it is a .zip file which is a compressed file or folder.
A ZIP file is simply a file filled with information, data or documents that have been through a compression process to minimize the size of the files making them quicker to download, easier to archive and more likely to be received via electronic mail because the compressed format takes up less storage space and uses fewer system resources.
you would need a program called "Winzip" to open this file which is also free and can be downloaded from
http://www.winzip.com/
after downloading this program, open your file with this program and you would need to decompress your program files. you will get all info from winzip help.
Hope you find this info useful.

Seeing as you apparently have checked for viruses and spyware already (by the way, Norton Anti Virus is useless at finding spyware so I would download a anti-spyware program like Adaware SE and double-check), it may be a hardware problem. First, however, update your video cards drivers to the latest ones, as corrupted video card drivers can cause your computer to freeze, crash ,reboot and generally behave erratically. If that doesn't help and you really have eliminated spyware and viruses, then it is probably a hardware problem. PS: if you have installed any addons for Internet Explorer, apart from the Yahoo, Google or Netcraft toolbars, remove them. Most addons for Internet Explorer are spyware or worse. Also remove any file sharing software you are running, as most file-sharing software is also spyware (apart from the bittorent clients).

Zip files are files that are compressed to make them smaller and need either Winzip or another extraction program to extract them. One that I liked was Aladdin Stuff-it Lite. Reason I like it was you just drag the file over the stuffit icon and it extracts the file. Easy Peasy. LOL

You can unzip the file by right-clicking on it, and then click on "Extract All" Then you can start the installation.

maybe I'm asking you the wrong question but have you unzip the files first before you tried to use it?
if you don't have unzip,
you can go to www.winzip.com
doesn't cost you anything to use it to unzip it.
hope this helps.
