Definitely do not recommend washing up liquid! My 3 kids are all just getting over the CP and the best thing they like is a tepid bath with bicarbonate of soda poured in to take away the itch. One of them has so many on his scalp so I just rinse his hair with the water too without shampoo. Avoid perfumed soaps, etc. but plain talc seems to work. Calamine lotion is good too.

A cool bath, pat them dry and apply lots of Calomine Lotion. I've never heard of bathing children in washing up liquid. Surely that can't be good for the skin. Take a look at your own hands when you've finished the washing up.

washing up liquid!!!! oh my god how do you think that feels to them? Imagine having chicken pox and having washing up liquid put on you...ouch!

Whatever happened to the good old days of camomile lotion...or if they have scratched and have broken skin (100% likely!) put them in a bath with a few drops of tea-tree oil to soothe the sores.

I firmly believe in homepathy first for children and this would be good to try on chicken pox! See the link below and get researching!

I have never heard of bathing in washing up liquid!! Washing up liquid is a harsh soap and I reckon it would create even more itchiness when dried. The best result for the itch is calomine lotion, which can be bought at the chemist. A definate soother for the bath would be to soak four redbush tea bags in a bath of water! No soap!!!

Put a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in your childs bath . It is no longer recommended to use calamine lotion anymore as it blocks the spots and causes infection . For the itch you could give your child piriton an anti-histamine medicine .. I did all of the above when my kids had chicken pox ..

Goodness I wouldnt put washing up liquid on them. I have to agree with all the other mothers, calamine lotion is your best bet.
In the bath you could add a few drops of lavender and tea tree oil. Both antibacterial and the lavender is soothing.
I put this in the bath when my little one is out of sorts.

Chickweed - works like magic. Make a very strong tea with the herb, and pour into the bath. The more the better. Oatmeal can also help - tie some into a sock, and place in the bath. The homeopathic remedy Rhus Tox can help too.

There is a product called Aveeno for the bath. It has colloidal oatmeal stuff in it that sooothes the itching away. It's very good.
It is a powder and does not make your bath a mess of gruel.

Use sodium bicoarbonate in the bath - you can buy it in the chemist. My Dr reccommened it when my kids had chicken pox and it really really helped them. Both kids kept asking to get in the bath as they found it so soothing.
