why is it that most guys cant cook me included?

Question

all i can cook is macaroni and cheese and if im lucky i dont ruin the cerial (i kid u not i have ruined cerial) , the hardest thing is hot dogs and Hot pockets. I eat at fast food alot

so i can cook 4 things

because we always have the females to cook for us. We never had the chance to learn on our own!

Most guys don't have the patience. You have to plan a meal out in advance so you have the right ingredients, then you need to cook it before the ingredients go bad. Generally results in not having the right ingredients sitting around because you already know they'll be bad before you get around to cooking them. And really when you get right down to it, why take half an hour to cook something when you can get food that tastes a helluva lot better by ordering out? Or when fast food is a ten minute round trip?

Here is a story for you. As a kid I liked "Spaghetti O's". I figured out how to open a can, put it in pot and turn on the burner. I was in 8th grade and felt good I could do this. My Dad did not know how to boil water. My Mom would fry pork chops until they were stiff or fry "Spam". My favorite dinners were "Chef Boyardee Ravioli" or scrambled eggs. Many years later on my own I could boil a hot dog. I moved into house with other roommates and one of them could make spaghetti sauce from scratch and boil pasta. I had no idea that was possible. I took to it like a duck to water. He showed me how to make chili and tacos from scratch including frying your own shells. I learned how to make Cornish Game Hens stuffed with wild rice and orange sauce. I was hooked. I went through cook books to try stuff. Years later I went to culinary school and did very well. Now I am an Executive Chef in a 4 star restaurant. My parents are still amazed where I got it from. The story comes down to being exposed to someone who can show you. It is not hard and a lot of fun.

It depends......... why is it some of the world's most famous chefs are men? I've found that when they want to, they can be very meticulous. That said, my husband can't boil an egg:)

But don't forget, men's brains are programmed to concentrate on one thing at a time, whereas women, studies show, are wired to multi-task.

A man WON'T cook because he just doesn't want to.

Oh and by the way, you're probably ruining your mac and cheese because you're not letting the water boil. I've made that mistake myself, ....and I'm a woman.

Learning to cook can be done by either sex. It takes time and commitment to become a decent cook and unfortunately most men just simply don't want to be bothered. My late husband was a very good cook and the 5 sons we had are all good cooks as well. I myself am a good cook also. If you truly want to cook, devote some time and purchase a good cookbook. It needn't be expensive, just basic. Start small and even if you make mistakes you wil eventually learn to fix edible food. Good luck to you.

Try walking into a commercial kitchen and asking that question. Not only can guys cook but guys can and do cook extemely well.
So take a couple of classes at your local community college, apply your male mechnical brain to solving cooking problems and start eating better. You can cook and cook well.

how did you learn to work on your car? how did you learn to install a stereo? how did you learn how to play baseball?

exactly....you learned how.

take some cooking classes. to cook at home will save you up to if not more than 4 times what you spend on eating out...and this even includes the dollar value menu.

not to mention all the problems and issues you will have in 10 yrs due to the fast food. heavy weight, high blood pressure, heart disease let alone the risk of food poisoning and other illness's. did you miss the taco bell scare lately? they shut down taco bells for multiple states.

remember you are trusting some 17 yr old kid to cook and handle your food....did he really wash his hands after he went to the bathroom? after that cig? after he rubbed his gf's....you get the picture.

Work in a fast food joint for 1 wk and you won't want to eat at them much anymore once you see what goes on behind the scenes.

I am a guy, and I can cook about anything I want to....now that is; and only because I took the time to learn...Most guys, myself included, just dont' bother taking the time needed to learn to cook simple things,because they believe only the woman should. But I learned, and my wife greatly appreciates it when I take on the chore of cooking dinner, and give her a break....

SOME men don't have enough Patience...and I mean that as kind as it sounds. =)

Anyone can cook if they take the time to do it.


I had to come back and add that there are a lot of woman who can fix cars and there are a lot of excellent male chefs in this world. I personally don't think its about upbringing. My mom never cooked, and never taught me anything about the kitchen. I in fact LOVE to cook.

It's just practice so if you never cook I don't see why you should know how to cook.

Most guys can't cooked just as if most girls can't work on a car. The reasoning is simple- cooking does not appeal to males and working on a greasy car does not appeal to a female.
