Stuffed mushrooms are a nice side dish and easy to reheat - you can vary the stuffings.

A really good salad is always appreciated by the girls...
Here's my most popular salad. I have never, ever had any of this salad left at the end of a meal. It's very easy, just a few ingredients and I always carry the ingredients to the party and put it together and toss it right before I serve it:

Fresh organic baby lettuce greens
Annies low fat raspberry vinagrette dressing
(If you can't find Annies any creaming raspberry vin. is ok)
Grated asiago cheese
Toasted or lightly candied pecans
Ripe pears cut into 3/4 inch cubes

In the summer I use fresh raspberries instead of the pears. Get the pears now so they'll be ripe for the party.
Have fun!

You should take the salad that my mother makes. It's bright green, so that would be festive. And instead of using pineapple, you could maybe use maraschino cherries?

1 box instant pistachio pudding
1 can of crushed pineapples (drained)
1 small carton of heavy whipping cream
1 cup of chopped pecans
1 cup of mini marshamallows

You make the pudding according to the directions on the box, but instead of milk, you use the heavy whipping cream. It makes it fluffier. Then, once it is set, you fold in the pineapple, marshamallows, and pecans. For presentation, you can top it with a dollop of whipped cream and some more nuts. But, if you use the cherries, you could top it with a cherry and a sprig of mint to make it look like holly :)

It's a very casual, summer-like dish, and since you said you're going to a bbq, it would be a good choice.

you could ask what you should bring, or bring some kind of a salad, a goodie tray, buns, just about anything you can think of. try this recipe it's good trust me:
Caramel Pecan Candy
this is from Taste Of Home

1/3 c. plus 1/2c. butter
20 cream filled cookies, crushed (oreos are best)
1 package caramels (14oz bag)
3c. pecan halves

Topping:
3/4 c. chocolate chips
3tbls. butter
3tbls. heavy whipping cream
3tbls. light corn syrup
3/4 tsp. vanilla

Melt 1/3 c butter in microwave. stir in cookie crumbs. press this into a 9 inch pan. bake in a 325 degree oven for 10 minutes, cool
Melt caramels and butter. stir in pecans. pour this over the crust. in a sauce pan combine chocolate chips, butter, whipping cream, corn syrup till cook till smooth. remove from heat and stir in vanilla pour over the caramels mixture. cool and cut

makes about 6 1/2 doz depending on how big you cut them. cut them small they are rich but ooohhhhhhh soooooo good. enjoy if you make them

A dessert is always appreciated, as long as it's not too heavy, especially at a bbq, something light like an angel food cake would be good with a strawberry whipped cream tinted red to be festive and a green mint leaf to garnish (or anything else green)

Definitely ask the host (ess) if he/she needs anything. You can always make a veggie tray or an appetizer like Polish roses or pigs in the blanket.

if you don't know what to take then maybe you should ask the person who is hosting the party what do they want or need you to bring
