Why is it that when answering a question some people think they have to write a long essay to answer? Does this annoy anyone else? I mean sometimes I have to scroll down a whole page to read answers!

Although I try to keep my answers short, it is not always possible.

Many times there are actually multiple questions to answer. You have three.

Like many questions about religion, questions about something complicated or with a lot of history cannot be answered properly with a short answer.

I once saw a very long and complicated question asking for only very short answers. My answer was probably too long.

And finally not all of us are terse, some are us were born verbose.

With love in Christ.

Some people can't precis information; others simply don't bother; and some people just like to write a lot. However, it doesn't mean they don't want to help you.

One problem I find is people who include lengthy "cut and paste"s from web sites. Better just to send a link I think.

If I do need to give a longer answer I will try to give the short version (yes or no, for example) followed by more details which puts the short version into context.

It's really a question of striking the right balance. I'm sure I don't always get it right.

But your question has made me think a bit about how I answer questions - so thanks.
