put away the chemistry set. if the soil is moist to the touch, is dark in color, and has a rich, earthy smell, it's good fertile soil.

Its a shell game, Nitrogen, Ph,Salinity, and junk. But like that other guy, I was raised by a family of farmers and we never needed a Chemical Analysis to tell us that a tornado and a hurricane would come this year. Look around, see anything growing naturally, its good soil. And obviously certain stuff will grow there.
Its the complete opposite of Science and Chemically Engineered Soils. After 35 years of putting nutrients,herbicides and other junk, it will become uninhabitable to most living organisms.
Pick up a handfull, feel it,smell it, taste it, then let it slide out of your open hand.You have just perfolrmed the test that has worked since Humans figured out Farming.
