To all other Wiccans...
I have a question. The book by Gavin and Yavine frost "The witches bible"
rejected as the "witchcrap" book by most all covens (even my own) whats your viewpoint on it? its monotheistic beliefe system goes against all wiccan teaching and since wicca is pagan, and the "witches bible" says wicca is not pagan...what is your opinion on it?

I stay away from anything "Frost"

Monotheism in not necessarily non-Wiccan or un-Wiccan like.

"Wicca is monotheistic: Some Wiccans recognize a single supreme being, sometimes called "The All" or "The One." The Goddess and God are viewed as the female and male aspects of this single deity.

Wicca is duo theistic (a.k.a. rarely as bi theistic): Wiccans often worship a female Goddess and a male God., often called the Lady and Lord.

Wicca is polytheistic: Wiccans recognize the existence of many ancient Gods and Goddesses, including Pan, Diana, Dionysus, Fergus, etc.

Wicca is atheistic: Some Wiccans view the God and Goddess as symbols, not living entities. Depending upon which definition of the term "Atheist" that you adopt, these Wiccans may be considered Atheists."

Be nice to Christians, what they think of us should be of no consequence to us anyway! Live and let live!

Wishing you a Blessed Yule!

Drew,

Something I would point out is that whether or not something goes "against all wiccan teaching" is really irrelevant. If you consider that Wicca is really only 50 years ago, despite being based upon the pre-Christian framework, you're only looking at a short period of history. Since Gardner, Wicca has changed immeasurably. The question you ought to be asking yourself is if any of the ideas found in the Frost's "Bible" have done anything to helpfully shift your perspective. Your understanding of deity should be your own, otherwise you're just worshipping an idol of someone else's fashioning - the avoidance of idol worship is actually one of the major reasons I shifted into paganism.

By that criterion, I personally found "The Witches' Bible" to be a huge waste of time. It offered nothing new beyond Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book of Bull@#$^ or a lecture you could find from your local 3rd Degree High Priestess, Our Lady of Empowerment through Bellydance. There are a lot more interesting books out there on the subject of Wiccan polytheology or magical theory.

Yule Mubarak,

Lazarus

I totally agree that it should be rejected as 'Witchcrap'. I love that saying now!

Having bought the book, read it and reviewed it many times, my view on it simply becomes more solidified as time goes on.

While once upon a time they may have had some interesting ideas about nature worship, they are now merely public figures, hiding behind a small facet of Wicca to promote and practice such perverted acts against children and adults. While adults can make their onw decisions, children look to those adults for guidance and to take advantage of that position of power is completely reprehensible.

I love fraters - 'Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book of Bull@#$^' - made me laugh!!!

Having said that, Buckland can be good, and he's a damn sight better than $ilver Ravenfraud.

Drew there are so many books.....I agree, any monotheistic religion can not be called wiccan as it would only address one God/Goddess. I know some try to blend the two as aspects of the same, but if you have met a lessor god you know that is not the case. There are just so many different books out there, each wiccan has to find what feels right to them. Covens come and covens go, just like most christian churches. Find your own way.....your witches bible is the one you write yourself.....you never know who is going to agree with everything the way you see it.

That having been said.....I hate even calling myself christian...I am not Christ like....I am however Primitive Baptist......formerly wiccan. Blessed be and never quit seeking knowledge or questioning.

First off thank you, many people do say that we are sick and twisted, and we are not. But my view on it is that a monotheistic belief can not exist with in wicca. Being that there are gods and goddesses saying that there is only one god would go against any of the teachings that we have been tought.

I stay away from anything by the Frost's as well. There are certain things in their books that are okay. But, for the most part they're....well, what you said, lol. I've read several of their books and the stuff on their sites. I disagree with the majority of it as well. My suggestion is to read from a variety of authors. But, also take into account which tradition they follow. Their tradition will give you more insight on what they write.

No, it quite is not against the Rede, in spite of the reality that i'm presuming it quite is a rhetorical question coming from you. ;) It relies upon on the reason for doing the curse. if this is the suitable way of combating greater injury, then its a threat. once you're doing it just to get revenge (or enact your guy or woman style of justice), then no. My rule of thumb is that if its justified to do something mundanely, you're justified to do it with magic. Revenge with a gun is basically as petty as revenge with magic. surely maximum people who think of approximately cursing are in seek of for revenge. in the event that they are finding for something greater efficient, magic frequently isn't the suitable technique available. (If there's a loopy guy on the door, you call the police, no longer forged a spell.) The regulation of return (i'm no longer into 3's) consistently applies. it quite is like the regulation of gravity. it quite is unbiased. it quite is why we must be so conscious of risky strikes: there are severe outcomes to such issues, yet now and back the purpose is worth those outcomes. in case you're no longer prepared to stand those outcomes, you ought to no longer be doing it. The universe does not seem any incorrect way basically because you have a good reason.

I have it. I haven't read the whole thing. My husband likes it. I think it's too controlling. I left Christianity because of the controlling and the lies, etc, and I don't want to take up with all that again in a new religion. I like to write my own rituals and spells, not read them out of someone else's book.

Crap is too nice of a word.

I suggest many Wiccan tomes, but NEVER that one.

It's the only book, I could ever think of destroying. Makes us all look bad.
