Swami Vivekanand could remember and verbatim the text by just flicking through a page. There were poets in King Bhoja's court who could quote word fr word a poem after hearing it once. These are cases of acute memories. One can achieve it by dint of systematic efforts. A body is built by continous exerxcises. Similarly memory is empwered by constant efforts. When you read any paragraph read it carefully .Understand the points in it.Then close the book and try to visualise the salient points. Recheck. If they differ try again. One brick has been laid. Go on adding more bricks so that you build up a rampart from which no memory can escape. There is nothing like god-given memory.Merely eatng tonics is not of much help

Memorise them in 'chunks' or smaller paragraphs. After memorising one chunk, put the text away, then immediately write down whatever that you can remember. After that compare whatever you've written to the orginal text. For me I'll use red pen to write whatever i've missed to highlight it to my mind. It'll leave a deeper impression in my memory, since i've physically wrote it out. This technique has carried me all the way to university

Repetition and a good night's sleep! I can't overemphasize how much sleep improves memory. I haven't seen a study where a change in diet helps any more than a placebo, though I suppose it's possible.
