I always bet horses that have raced before and then end up on Lasix for the first time later in their career. I also like to play horses that have blinkers on when they didn't in their previous races.

Using Lasix in horses can definitely make a big difference. A lot of horses will always bleed, severely, during their races, and if severe enough, it can actually kill them as the bleeding generally comes from the lungs. I do believe a champion Australian race mare called Let's Elope successfully raced in the United States whilst on Lasix, something she could not have done had she still been racing in Australia.

leeAnn is absolutely right. It is used to control bleeding in horses. I would not bet on a horse that has just been removed from Lasix. As far as the blinkers go, some horses need them while other horses are bothered by them. If a horse has been running well without them, I would not use them. If you see it is the first race with blinkers on then the trainer is trying to correct a problem and it may not be a good bet. Good luck.

Lasix makes a huge difference. For instance, imagine, an asthmatic running a cross country race without meds; would he/she fair better with or without meds. First time lasix, more often than not, makes a difference.

I think that any change a trainer is making is definetly worth considering. Lasix is a lot more common now in the U.S., where as before it was only legal in certain states.
