Well if all we are assuming is that there is a God then there is no evidence that God is the God of Abraham. Then again there is no evidence against that He isnt either.

Because God talked to Abraham and Abraham listened. Abraham was willing to do whatever God asked even sacrificing his only son. Abraham was loyal and trusting. God made a covenant with him. Abraham was first to follow this God and the people who followed Abraham also followed his God and thus began the Jewish religion.

God is referred to as the God of Abraham, because He is the God Abraham believed in and trusted.

People respect people they know and trust. God in the Bible is refered to as many names. The God of Jacob, or The God of Abraham, or The God of Isaac, or The God of David. It is a way to show who they were talking about in the bible. I could say that the God of Floyd says... blah blah blah... but who is Floyd anyway... But if I say The God of Jacob, or The God of the Jews. Then Everyone knows who I am speaking about. Especially since the Jewish territory was oftten occupied by people who worshipped other Gods, it was important to state which God you were talking about. Otherwise you could have been stoned. AndI don't mean on Marijuana.

Abraham Debates With Idol Worshipers

[6:74] Recall that Abraham said to his father Azar, "How could you worship statues as gods? I see that you and your people have gone far astray."

[6:75] We showed Abraham the marvels of the heavens and the earth, and blessed him with certainty:

[6:76] When the night fell, he saw a shining planet. "Maybe this is my Lord," he said. When it disappeared, he said, "I do not like (gods) that disappear."

[6:77] When he saw the moon rising, he said, "Maybe this is my Lord!" When it disappeared, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will be with the strayers."

[6:78] When he saw the sun rising, he said, "This must be my Lord. This is the biggest." But when it set, he said, "O my people, I denounce your idolatry.

[6:79] "I have devoted myself absolutely to the One who initiated the heavens and the earth; I will never be an idol worshiper."

[6:80] His people argued with him. He said, "Do you argue with me about GOD, after He has guided me? I have no fear of the idols you set up. Nothing can happen to me, unless my Lord wills it. My Lord's knowledge encompasses all things. Would you not take heed?

[6:81] "Why should I fear your idols? It is you who should be afraid, since you worship instead of GOD idols that are utterly powerless to help you. Which side is more deserving of security, if you know?"

Perfect Security for Believers

[6:82] Those who believe, and do not pollute their belief with idol worship, have deserved the perfect security, and they are truly guided.

[6:83] Such was our argument, with which we supported Abraham against his people. We exalt whomever we will to higher ranks. Your Lord is Most Wise, Omniscient.

[6:84] And we granted him Isaac and Jacob, and we guided both of them. Similarly, we guided Noah before that, and from his descendants (we guided) David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, and Aaron. We thus reward the righteous.

[6:85] Also, Zachariah, John, Jesus, and Elias; all were righteous.

[6:86] And Ismail, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot; each of these we distinguished over all the people.

[6:87] From among their ancestors, their descendants, and their siblings, we chose many, and we guided them in a straight path.

[6:88] Such is GOD's guidance, with which He guides whomever He chooses from among His servants. Had any of them fallen into idolatry, their works would have been nullified.

[6:89] Those were the ones to whom we have given the scripture, wisdom, and prophethood. If these people disbelieve, we will substitute others in their place, and the new people will not be disbelievers.

[6:90] These are the ones guided by GOD; you shall be guided in their footsteps. Say, "I do not ask you for any wage. This is but a message for all the people."

God's Messages to the World

[6:91] They never valued GOD as He should be valued. Thus, they said, "GOD does not reveal anything to any human being." Say, "Who then revealed the scripture that Moses brought, with light and guidance for the people?" You put it down on paper to proclaim it, while concealing a lot of it. You were taught what you never knew - you and your parents. Say, "GOD (is the One who revealed it)," then leave them in their heedlessness, playing.

[6:92] This too is a blessed scripture that we have revealed, confirming the previous scriptures, that you may warn the most important community and all those around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter will believe in this (scripture), and will observe the Contact Prayers (Salat).

The Lord of Abraham
The Ahura of Zoroaster
The Eishwar of Krishna
The Jehovah of Moses
The God of Jesus
The Allah of Muhammad
is the AlMighty One Alone God Only who is the Creator and Nourisher of us all.

THE SUPREME LORD

Who said in the Godly voice
“I, and I alone, am God
and all other gods
(or goddesses and demigods)
are unreal.”
(Bible Duet. 32:39)

“Worship no god but Me”
(Exodus 20:3)

“Worship no god but Me”,
clearly means that:
“There is no god but Me.”

The same Words has been revealed by the Lord through the Lord’s Revelation, Al-Quran:

“There is no god but Allah
(The One Alone God)”

so, PEACE here in this world and there in the Hereafter, can be ensured through obedience of the Lord, the Holy One alone; in accordance with the Lord’s commandments, given in all the Scriptures, already, possessed by the people of the Scriptures.

Therefore, the Lord of Moses (PBUH) and the Lord of Muhammad (PBUH) and the Lord of Jesus (PBUH) and the Lord of Krishna (PBUH) is the same, Alone Lord who is known as Our God, the One and the Alone and the Absolute Holy.
The Lord is, therefore, Holy and the Lord must be believed in, as Holy. To ascribe a son unto the Lord__ is a direct assault on the Lord’s Holiness__ which is an unpardonable crime.
True servants of the Lord should, therefore, never be named after their Prophets__ as Abrahamics (the followers of Abraham)__ Jacobeans (the followers of Jacob)___ Christians (the followers of Christ)___ or Muhammadans (the followers of Muhammad). They should be properly named as Muslims___ or the servants of the Lord___ as they have been named in the Bible as well as in Quran. The Bible contains the name of slave/servant while Quran contains the name of Muslim. The literal oneness of the name of slave/servant and Muslim___ does indicate the virtual oneness of belief. The belief of all the Prophets__ was one and the same__ and that was faith and trust in One Alone God.
The Holy One is Gracious-Enough to pardon all the sins, committed during the time of ignorance. With such a generous invitation, the Lord is inviting the mankind to resort to the Lord. So those__ who are desirous to resort__ they should resort without any delay__ lest the Satan may render their whole life useless and fruitless. Beware please, death may approach at any time and disconnect the chain of life, all of a sudden.

God revealed Himself to Abraham but He is the God of all mankind!

If you are talking about the monotheistic God then yes, It had to be the God of Abraham.
All People who believe in a Monotheism believe in the same God. If you say that your neighbours God is different than your God then you have just become a believer in Polytheism.
If you and your neighbour agree that there is one God then all you are doing otherwise is arguing over its names and features.
Well you might also argue over who it likes more, like a couple of kids fighting over whom their Mom loves better.

Edit: It is like Ibn Adam says above. They are all one God.

..if you mean why is Abraham given the privilege - God was #1for him, even his son, born in his old age was worth giving up to prove his love and devotion to God...
...if you mean why would God choose to be known by him - God wants the whole world to know...if you give him that #1 place like Abraham did... you will see his providence...
...in a line i think- the God of Abraham should remind us of his providence..
