I've been noticing that the candy canes on the christmas tree have missing. I busted my min-pin pulling one off and eating it. She peels off the wrapper and eats it. She has been teaching my other dog to do this. I know chocolate is bad for dogs but what about peppermint? Or is a little bit alright?

I asked my brother who is a vet & he said that the sugar is not good for the teeth & it can make the dog hipper (sugar rush) also the plastic wrapper is not good because they cant digest plastic. If he starts vomiting or having diahhreah get him to the vet because he could go into sugar shock ( too much sugar in his system & his cant tollerate it) also if he starts drinking alot of water. If this happens ur vet can either give him medications or pump his stomack. But he should be ok as long as he hasn't eaten more than 2 candy canes. Move the rest out of his reach. Also NEVER let or give ur dog chocolate because it causes cancer in all dogs because they can't digest it.

I have never heard of peppermint being bad for dogs, but still you should keep the candy canes away from your dogs. They certainly are not healthy.

Chocolate, and anything containing xylitol - an artificial sweetener is dangerous for dogs. Candy canes in excess may cause an upset tummy but nothing serious.

I'm not sure how peppermint affects a dog's system, but I'd watch out for stomach problems.
I'd also be concerned about th sugar being in contact with their teeth.

well peppermint isn't all that bad for a dog but you see it contains a lot of juices that can harm a dogs digestive system . a once in a while treat is all right but just dont let it be a habit . doggie treats are a better option-they come in a variety of flavors even peppermint(mild).

Dogs are naturally animals after all. They are not born or meant to eat stuff that are not natural like that . I mean sugar is even bad for us humans so definetely it's worse for animals too. But peppermint it's ok. don't worry

different things are bad for different dogs. i have never heard of problems with peppermint. remove the rest of the candy canes though. watch your dog for any signs of vomiting or listlessness (which should be easy in a min pin, lol) if you notice any gastric problems take your little grinch to the vet asap. good luck.

and please don't listen to the nut who's mother fed her dog's chocolate and he says it's fine. she probably fed him lead paint chips and he thinks he fine too.
