Because the think it is THIER salvation when it is actually God's salvation. It is a gift from God and God doesn't give a gift and then take it back again.

1 John 5:16-17 - If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.

Luke 12:46-48 - Then that servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful. That servant who knew his master's will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master's will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.

Catholics believe:

Mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a complete turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.

Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.

But continual venial sin can slowly but surely totally separate you from God, placing you into the state of mortal sin.

With love in Christ.

We can't lose it if we persevere.
We can't lose it if we obey the commandments.
That is what the bible is talking about.

Forensic justification, or imputed righteousness, was an opinion of Martin Luther (the Lutherans no longer hold completly to this doctrine) The consequenting theory, "Once saved, always saved", is not in the bible, the very concept is not in the bible, it is only a few hundred years old, and was NEVER found anywhere or written about anywhere by any Christian for 1500 years.

Rev. 22:19 and if any one takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

Anyone who believes in the man-made doctrine of "once saved always saved" is at a loss at to explain how somebody can "have a share in the tree of life" and have it taken away.

Why is it that people think they can spit on God's rules and still go to Heaven?

(Hebrews 10:26-27) "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God."

Is that not clear enough for you? It gets a little more elaborate...

(Hebrews 10:28-29) "Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?"

It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Stand a little closer to your Bible and you'll understand that.

They don't understand the gift of salvation fully, which comes by the grace of God. They have been taught falsely and fail to see the truth for themselves.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

Mt 7:6 -
Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Why would God send the Holy Spirit to someone; showing them His truth all the while knowing they would refuse Him. He wouldn't and doesn't. He is not a liar.

This is an ongoing debate - with good scripture based reasons on both sides.
I have come to believe that you cannot lose your salvation because that is the essence of message in scripture - but there is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit... is that possible after accepting Christ?

John only gave them theaurthority to become christians, it doesn't say tht they were guaranteed the right, and neitherdoes itsay in corinthians that salvation is guranteed. Stop twisting the scriptures. Nownere does it say once saved, always saved. that is oneof the lies the modern protestant religions are spreading along with therapture ant that you should follow the teachings of only paul and revelation.

People have free will and can choose to reject both God and his salvation, even after they've already been saved, just as you could choose to jump back out of a lifeboat and drown, even though you had just been pulled into one.

See John's writing regarding "sins to death".

It is a free gift from God. But we have the right to reject that gift. Just because God is the one who offers salvation, does not mean we can't reject it. I do think it is not simply one sin that separates us from salvation, but rather a continuance in unrepentant sin. If that is the case, we would be rejecting salvation through our actions.
