I have heard that i can not go with him to germany immeadiatley even though we will be married. I am wondering has anyone been in this situation that can tell me approxaimatley how long i will have to wait before i can go join him in germany?

well it depends, first you need to make sure you have a passport, when he get there he will need to get in processed, and get command sponsorship paper work done, this way he can get housing, and make sure he Will be getting paid for being married. It will take 6 months to a year for this to be completed (it took me 9 months to get mine completed and returned to me). after this he wil need to get in to housing( can take up to 6 months). at this time you will then be able to join him over here in Germany

Do as the others here suggested. I will tell you, do not get excited about coming over here. With all the Closures and Re-alignments, it could be possible that he will get sent back Stateside within a few days of arriving. ALSO, he could get assigned to a Unit that will be returning to the States 'soon' and then that is a huge waste of Gov't monies to get you over here. Oh, he will NOT be assigned to Frankfurt. That is where he will land, but he will then be bussed/taken to the Inprocessing Area over here...THERE he will know where he is going to be Stationed. You might want to think about this....IF he does get to stay here, there is that 99.99% chance he WILL Deploy. So, do you want to be in a Country where you possibly don't know the Language/drive or have a car/or have any friends while he is gone? I have been thru Deployments over here, and even WITH friends, it can be rough. You just can't get in your car and drive to see your family. Nor can you leave Country for more than 30 days for the BAH will go from Married to Single.
There are so many things to think about....

Hi Jenni Once he has passed basic training and is posted he can apply to be allocated MQ on or near his base. That could I am afraid be anywhere and the fact that you currently live in Hastings is irrelevant to the Army. If he is posted to say Catterick, that is where you can have Married Quarters. Some families decide to buy a house and for the husband to live in barracks or The mess (according to rank) during the week and commute home at weekends but most of us move around the World with our husbands. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me.

I was in the EXACT same situation. We were married January 7th....I didn't get to Germany until the 4th of April. The only thing that I had to wait on was my passport. The DAY you get married, get started on your passport along with your orders and command sponsership!!!...that is where I went wrong. It may not take as long to get yours as it did mine. Also, get in touch with the closest military installation to you....the military paid for my passport, but if you do pay for yours I think you may be able to get it expedited. But they will also pay for your flight. Good luck!!! Can I ask where you are stationed?? Email me! We are currently in Friedberg, Germany. Have a happy holiday!

The question should be is if you, the spouse will be command sponsored or not -- and that will be the determining factor after your marriage.

IF you do not have a passport -- that is going to take approximately 6-8 weeks AFTER application for you to receive the passport -- and with the Application you have to have certain documents as well -- including A Birth Certificate and other identification documents (and the Marriage License too).

If your married try to get a command sponsership ASAP you have to move fast on this you need to be on his orders to go the same time as him. If he gos there with out you there is no telling when you would join him it could be weeks months even. Call the unit hes supposed to be going to in germany and insist on a command sponsership like yesterday and dont stop calling/ harrasing them until it happens trust me
