I have a female that I took with me to my mothers house for vacation. While we were there she went into heat and the male started to spray becuase she has not yet had him neutered( in the process), she is no longer there, however he is still spraying and meowing consistently? Will this stop before we get him fixed, or will it be a continual thing... and if so what can we do to sooth it?

They have been together before and never had a problem until now... bad timing... since I have left he is no longer spraying, but crying/meowing for her.. is there any way to stop that in the meantime?

depends. i would get him neutered as soon as possible. and why on earth would you put two unaltered cats together? you were just asking for trouble, and now you have it. have your cat spayed. as for your poor mother who sounds like she was in the process of doing the right thing. most male cats will stop spraying once neutered. clean where he's sprayed with a urine removing solution, but unfortunatly sometimes once this has become a learned behavior it may take a long time if ever to correct. your mom's favorite right?

Male cats don't go into heat! Only the females do. But the males can smell her and be around your house fighting and yowling so maybe it seems like they are in heat, too! And as for how long, just 5-7 days. And did you know that since cats have seperate uteris'(sp?), they can have more than one father to their kittens? One kitten may have been conceived one night with one tom, and two more conceived the next night by a different tom. That's why when the kittens are born, some are so obviously bigger and stronger? Cool, huh? (This is all supposing your kitty is not spayed and loose outside...both a big no-no)

Unfortunately for you he will continue as long
as her scent is present. Mostly on fabric. You
can try expensive stuff from the vet or pet store
to get rid of it.
Or you can buy scented Febreeze and mist it
around the house until he stops.

he will go on long after ,even if the cat is not in heat anymore ,
get him fixed before you have to change houses because of the smell.
