He will begin acruing leave as soon as he is "shipped out" for basic training. You acrue 30 days a year, so I guess 2.5 days per month sounds right. Basically he should request his leave as soon as possible. Just remember that the request needs to be turned in to his unit that he will be with at the time of the leave, so if he is in basic now and the wedding is not for several months, he will need to wait until he gets to his permanant unit to request the vacation. If he is in training at the time of the wedding they may not approve it. As for waiting for time I am not sure about this, during my infantry OSUT everyone in training battalions whether it be infantry or basic had to take 2 1/2 weeks off for x-mas, I had joined in October and didnt have nearly enough time, they approved it anyone and my earnings statements showed my vacation in the negative for a few months. The best case would be for your fiancee to speak with his NCO about it, they would know best.

the time in advance depends on his unit some require 30 to 60 days prior to going on leave, They can take up to the entire 30 to 60 days to get an answer back to you if it has been approved, The best way for him to find out sooner is to every so often ask his team leader about it, but do not do it so much that it annoys the team leader, ( paper work is easily lost) yes basic, and ait count toward leave time, as far as how long he will have to wait to take leave once he gets to his unit can be any were from 1 to 6 months, this needs to be addressed to the unit to find out. they may not let him at all for a while,, especially if they are getting ready to go to the sand box. he Will find all this out as soon as he gets to his unit.

Ok, he starts accruing leave from the day he shows up for basic. After that you get 30 days every year.
As for when to ask, as soon as possible.
Most army units have a plan at least three months out. As soon as you know what dates you want for your wedding ask for them. For something like a wedding most commanders are really cool about time off. Plus if you wanted to do it around the base the Army does a really good show for a military wedding.
Good luck

I would say 45 days before leave date. You never know for sure if your leave is going to be approved until they hand you your leave paper! Every consider the justice of peace. It might be a lot easier and then you can have a big wedding leter. You will also need to consider how many leave days he will have on the books to take. Some commands won't let you take more then 15 days at one time!

it depends on the unit, some have block leave where the unit as a whole goes on leave.
Basic and AIT do count.
The amount of time you wait depends on the commander.
no, there isn't a certain amount of time you have to wait, if the rules haven't changed in the past 15 yrs, you can go into debt with leave. As long as you have the time to get yourself outta the debt.

I'm ex-Navy... so my thoughts may be different !
First, Congratulations !! And Thank you to your fiance for his service. I gather that he is IN basic and you are waiting for basic and Advance Infantry Training to finish up.
As I remember, the rules are no requesting prior to 30 days. You CAN go "in-the-hole" for leave if you will have the time in service to "pay" for that leave.
It often depends on the command... regarding scheduling.
The Navy had to pay me back for leave a number of times during my 15 yrs... at the end they had to pay me for 90 days !! I had a last stretch where I just couldn't schedule leave.

If you desire to take expertise of his pay, then you definitely could get married earlier than fundamental coaching. There is a change in housing that's to be had as he keeps within the provider and his pay. However, it's not a intent to get married. If you could have been in combination due to the fact you had been each 12, you have not rather given your self a threat to discover different chances with different men and women. I suppose you each must enjoy lifestyles just a little extra, and also you must maintain institution and dealing, whilst he develops emotionally and matures within the provider. It will difference him. See in the event you each nonetheless like and love the individual in one more 4 years or so. Good success to either one of you.

All active duty time counts, including duty for training.
How much advance time he needs to request leave will depend on his unit and his commander. He should request it as far in advance of the date as possible.
Services may allow "delay enroute" between a training assignment and the soldier/airman/sailor's permanent unit. All of these figure into leave planning. This is usually available immediately upon completion of training.

With getting married you are not requesting a normal leave that would fall into block leave category. If aproved by commander, and should be with advanced notice, he'll have 10 days to get you situated when he arrives at his duty station -- dont know what its classified as but marriage would be similiar to convalescent leave -- because you are getting married and he will be bringing you to him.
They might try tactics to disway him but they have to honour the marriage.
Congradualtions!!!
Boy are you guys in for a tough time.
Good luck!

just have him talk to his nco's when he checks in and they can help him out. The military is all about taking care of their own. dont worry so much and have him talk to his chain of command.
easy fix, easy answer.
every month he is in the army he gains leave, bct, ait, everything. The only reason he wouldnt be able to take leave is if his unit needed him for something. he needs to talk to them when he checks in to the unit.
