I have a sweet 9 week old puppy that I need to kennel for 4 days. The kennel facility will keep my little boy separate from the other dogs, in a small kennel in the office (with another puppy in another crate). They will also give him time outside. Is this ok? It just worries me because he is so young and while he is up to date with all his shots, he hasn't gotten rabies and other boosters.

Most boarding kennels these days are very clean, however, you should visit the kennel and ask about their facilities cleaning methods, and how strict they are about the health and vaccination/worming requirements for the adult dogs..If possible, it would be best to take your own crate for the puppy..
A puppy would be very safe in our dog day-care/boarding kennel..We even keep up with the owner's potty training routine..

Hi there.
I personally would say no. From experience i have noticed that the animal becomes quite distant after being kenneled away from it's owner, and at the young age that it is it can change him an astounding amount. You might also notice that it may not remembe you as well, and though dogs have a wonderful memory to people, at the young age it is, it will have a little bit of problems with that. Um you may also want to think about the fact that being kenneled it will mess up all of the training that you have thus far put into him because of the fact that all places work with the animals differently, and you don't know what goes on when your not there... I would say take the pup with you.. it's the best way.

I would not take a 3yr old dog to a kennel never mind a 9 week old pup, even if it is in a separate area some of the dieases are air borne and the time outside he could pick up germs from other dogs that have been in the area.
Not a good idea

well most kennels don't allow any dog to board with them till they are at least 4 months old because with a pup that young he can't get his rabies or his bordetella vaccine. so if you board him you are taking a big risk putting him in the kennel. even though they say they will keep him separate from the others i wouldn't take the chance with putting him in the kennel. i would ask family, friends, or even your vet. yes vets do some boarding to. the best thing to do is not to board him with him being so young, and at this age they are able to catch anything that the other dogs may have. please be careful where you put your dog because if he gets sick from being there you will have a very big vet bill depending on what he may get from the kennel.

Definitely not. At that age even though he will be kenneled separate from the other dogs he still can get sick. And if she lets him out to play in the same area that she lets the other dogs out he can still catch deceases like parvo, distemper, and coronal viruses even without coming in direct contact with the other dogs at the kennel. Especially if the pup hasn't completed with the follow up boosters. Take him with you where ever your going.

I wouldn't the puppy is too younge to be kenneled in a place with many dogs carring who know's what. Plus he just got to know you. If you can not take him with try finding a friend or family member who can watch him someone close to you. That way he isn't overwhelmed and has a nice place to move around instead of a box for 4 days.

No, 9 weeks is too young to kennel a dog. Can you find a friend or relative to watch him for a few days? Have someone stay at your house to watch him there. Don't take a chance with your puppy's life.

HE is too young. The immune system has not fully kicked in at this young age. I would wait until he has had all his series of shots which is 18 to 21 weeks of age. He will be subjected to all canine diseases , Especially the highly airborn parvo and distemper virus Both can be and usually are FATAL.These can be found also in vet clinics. Example.. Someone brings a puppy in with parvo or distemper near the time of your arrival your puppy has been subjected to these viruses. This is the reason that most breeders give their own shots at home.

No, you should not take your puppy to a kennel as he isn't old enough to have all his shots.

Kennels are breeding places for Parvo, a horrible death for puppies.

In addition, even 4 days away from you....away from socialisation controlled by you, learning controleld by you will impact on this dogs adulthood, you only need to read about the development of dogs in relation to ages to know this is a very poor thing to do.
