Can being on a medication like Fluoxitine for depression/OCD cause a person to be overly obsessed and almost delusional about ones own appearance? Like feeling that ones appearance changes drastically from day to day and feeling hideusly ugly oneday and good the next?

I'm not sure whether or not the medication can do that, but it could also be related to the OCD, or even just its own thing. Either way, you should talk to your doctor about it.

You can have any side effect to any medicine. I am the queen of insane side effects. The doctors are always suspicious at first but once they witness it it's obviously true and I apparently just react funny to medicine. If these feelings are usually not there and suddenly are then you need to tell your doctor immediately. Just because a medicine doesn't usually have that side effect doesn't mean it can't ever have it. Personally I had to be hospitalized because I started taking lithium...which is one of the most common drugs for bipolar disorder there is...and within a few days started having severe obsessions, delusions, and my anxiety (which is also a problem for me) went through the roof. None of the doctors were expecting that and I had been led to believe that it would be the last drug I'd have to try...that it was the light at the end of the tunnel. Well apparently not. Everyone's reactions to medications are different just like everyone's brain chemistry is slightly different. Talk to your doctor about what's bothering you now and try to figure out if it cropped up at the same time as you started taking the medicine. Good luck and feel better!

The first thing you should know is that it takes an average of 8 continious weeks on a medication such as Fluoxitine to notice any results. Whe first starting a medication, your symptoms can get worse before they improve. If you feel that your condition is worsening, you should consult the perscribing doctor. In rare cases, medicines can have the opposite affect they are intended for and can become very dangerous to your health. In any case, you shouls call your doctor as soon as possible to inform him of this unusual side affect.

I am a therapist. I have to say many people do not fully understand mental illnesses, even some diagnosed individuals. It really is no different that a general medical illness, but the area of concern is in the brain. Many of my clients suffer from serious mental illnesses and have been committed to state mental hospitals, and the most common illnesses I treat are schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Prior to being committed, many of my clients have no idea how sick they have gotten. The illness has taken over. It’s actually quite SAD.

Fluoxetine generic for Prozac. Prozac is an SSRI drug. These drugs often have mild physical side effects. In very rare cases they can make depression and compulsive thinking increase in some patients. However, with the extremety of which you are describing these symptoms, I think there may be a pre-existing problem that should be discussed with your doctor or a psychiatrist, I highly doubt its a side effect of this medication.
