I'm not a big fan of drinking 8 glasses of water per day. I've tried for about a month to drink lots of water each day, but find I'm not enjoying the process.

No enjoyment means it can't be a lifelong change. The reason for no enjoyment is I don't like drinking so much water....I feel water logged.

So the question is, can you drink a couple of glasses of water and then get the rest of your water from tea, coffee, juice etc.

I know all of these have calories, water doesn't, but if I take the calories into account in my daily intake, would these be good subsitutes for pure water?

Most other things don't hydrate you as well. As long as you stay hydrated all day, I would not worry about getting the 8 glasses a day. It is just an average anyway and may not be that accurate. Drink what you need and what is comfortable.

no substitute for fresh pure water. drink 2 liters a day. everyday. understand what it's all about and get over yourself. every one of the alternatives mentioned above have problems. coffee and tea are diuretic. they dehydrate. fruit juice is a great thing to drink, but again, some fruit juice is diuretic and must be supplimented with water.

believe me i've had my problems drinking enough water. still do sometimes, but there is no substitute for fresh water. a couple drops of lemon or lime juice in a glass of water may help.

all experts I've encountered say No there is no substitute . I drink 3 or 4 liters each day and the more I persist the more I enjoy and even crave drinking water. What kind of water have you been using? Tea and coffee problably don't hydrate the same.

There is no substitute to the amount of water you should drink. You are hydrating your body. You can add mixes like crystal-light or other similar things to make it taste better than just plain water.

...I guess you could always just shove an IV line in your arm and walk around with a sweet hydration pack all the time.

Anything that is a water-based liquid can be used, but try to avoid caffinated drinks as they will dehydrate you and make you more thirsty. Try decaffinated teas and coffee. Also, try to stay away from anything that has high fructose corn syrup in it. Some studies have shown that it may be one of the major causes of obesity. Real fruit juice is good, but also has sugar in it. Just make sure it's a no sugar added juice.

Try to drink gatorade. It will help you a lot if you are not a fan of water. But as much as possible, if you can, water is the best.

Brewed tea is a very healthy alternative to water, it's loaded with these 'antioxidants' that everybody speaks of, and has little caloric value. It also tastes good.
Avoid tea drinks such as Snapple and Sobe that are high in sugar and calories and provide very few benefits.
