You weren't even a true believer from the beginning. You went to the church because of expectations from others and that now, you have decided not to care about their expectations upon you, church became one thing that you hate the most and you don't want to go because you are so stressed out from eyes of other christians.

It is very disappointing when you discover something true and wonderful but then find it is entrusted to people who are not the ideal God had hoped for. Even He had a day when He wished he had not created man. People don't really hate their church they hate the fact that it didn't live up to the dream. Thank God it's not up to people to make it to heaven through faithfulness and loyalty otherwise their dog would go in and they would be left out. Getting along with siblings is a challenge in the natural world just as it is in church.

I was just discussing this very same thing with my wife the other day. Her brother hasn't been the most active in church and has shown signs of turning against some of the very basic things he was raised to revere.
I think that alot of it stems from not really believing in the first place but was forced to go thru the motions because of pressure from family and friends. But when they begin to venture out on their own as adults they start to test some of the things they were taught just to see for themselves.
I have seen, however, that children who were raised a certain way and then later rebel as teenagers will someday return to their roots as mature adults. Alot of it has to do with the 'sowing of wild oats' and then finding that maybe your parents were right about a few things after looking back at a few of your mistakes.

People leave their old place of worship, because we are the church due to various reasons. I left my old church because my spiritual growth was at a stand still with the new young pastor that came in. By all means I do not hate the church or the place of worship.

Because alot of young people are dragged off to the church by their parents and forced to do something that they never liked. Once they are free of their parents rule and on their own and can make their own decision they leave the church and instead of focusing their anger at their parents it makes the church the next best target.

When I left the Baptist religion I did not hate it, it just was not enough. I had more questions. I was appreciative of what they did teach me. Now many in that church when I changed religions never spoke with me again kindly .Even though I would try to speak kindly to them.

I see this in younger people.. It's just the need to rebel against authority, like the Church.
They'll come back if they're meant to.
Of course, some congregations are not... prime examples of God's love, so people move on to find 'better' ones.
again, to each their own.

Most don't hate their old church, they are just pissed of that the pastor controlled them for so long.
