I noticed that white chocolate chips have the same ingredients as almond bark. Could one substitute white chocolate chips for almond bark? (Someone else's question got me to thinking...)

Just to clarify: By white chocolate, I mean white chocolate chips (the ones sold next to the chocolate chips in the baking aisle). Not the fancier "white chocolate".

Yes. Some has actual almonds in it though. Yes you can substitute.

Almond Bark (also known as vanilla flavored candy coating) is an artificial chocolate made with vegetable fats instead of cocoa butter and with coloring and flavors added. It can be found in 1.5 pound packages, in blocks, or in round discs where candy supplies are sold.

The term is also applied to a type of candy consisting of sheets or chunks of semisweet or milk chocolate to which almonds or almond pieces have been added.

True white Chocolate is made using cocoa butter solids, with none of the rest of the cocoa plan (ie, the part that actually gives you the chocolate taste and dark color)t. Almond bark is made using vegetable oils in place of the cocoa butter. Both Nestle and Hershey brands do not have cocoa butter and are closer to almond bark in that they are made with vegetable fats. If you are looking for "true" white chocolate chips the only 2 brands I have found are Sunspire and Chatfield s-both made with Cocoa butter solids

It can serve the same purpose (as to dipping/covering) but there is NO (white) chocolate in it. I mix mine with white chocolate chips. The white chocolate chips add that extra layer of flavor and the bark gives me a nice, not too thin, not too thick, coating on things such as pretzels and peanuts. ADDITIONAL Please do not listen to the morons who think they know what they are talking about. Unlike chocolate, white chocolate contains neither chocolate liquor nor cocoa solids. The low melting point of cocoa butter allows white chocolate and chocolate to remain solid at room temperature, yet melt easily in the mouth. As such, white chocolate has a texture similar to that of milk chocolate.

Believe it or not, white chocolate is not actually chocolate! Real chocolate is made using cocoa and cocoa butter - gives it that smooth texture and dark colour. White 'chocolate' and even some dark chocolates are actually just coatings - cheap imitations of real chooclate made using oils and emulsifiers.
Almond bark can be made all kinds of ways, using real chocolate, so yeah, white chocolate and almond bark are pretty different.
