I am currently on medication for Depression/Obsessive Compulsive Disorder called Fluvoxitine. I have found that some aspects have improved (with the OCD) and some have worstened. I contemplate suicide every day of my life and am seriously considering it. My life is not that bad and certainly not bad enough to want to die, so I am assuming I have some sort of chemical imbalance. My life is very typical that of a 19 year old girl. The only traumatizing thing in my life was being briefly being "abused" as a child. I have no will to live whats so ever.
Ive been to many doctors, and nothing helps. Has anyone ever been through this?

Oddly enough, some antidepressants can actually increase suicidal thoughs and behaviors as a side effect, especially in children and adolescents. So you should talk to your doctor about that.

Since you're already under a doctor's care for depression, the best thing would be to talk to that doctor about it. There's also a list of crisis hotlines on the inside front cover of your phonebook that you can call if you ever just want to talk to someone. If you ever feel that you're in immediate danger, go to any hospital ER or call 911.

SSRI class of drugs have been known to cause suicidal behavior in about 4% of the patients that take them. To answer your question better I would need to know some history, and how long you have been on this, or any other meds. If this is the first time you have been on an SSRI drug and just started treatment within the past few months this should pass (though you should try not to be alone during this time).
The view on drugs for depression/anxiety/ocd is a bit contraversial. The biological camp claim that there are chemical imbalances that cause these behaviors which can be resolved through meds that "balance" these chemicals.....The other camp claiming that all these things are environmantal or "learned" behaviors. And there are some who believe both.
It is my belief that these drugs can be helpful, but they are not cures. They are a kinda of bandaid..and we all know that bandaids can protect a wound...but a bandaid alone doesnt heal a wound......wounds heal over time.
I would suggest that you continue your current medications and talk to your doctor about how you are feeling. If he tries to change doses or meds....then find another doctor...but you need a to follow this up with therapy. More meds arent usually the best answer.
Also I am a bit concerned about your age. 19 is a bit young for SSRI treatment. the increased risk of suicide in patients taking SSRI anti-depressants increases depending on age...with patients under 18 being most succeptable. you being just 19 may not have a much different chemical make-up then a younger girl.
So, go to your doc....inform him...insist that drugs are not enough...get him to refer you to a compatant therapist...talk to friends or someone who isnt judgemental...and take care of yourself.

Have the suicidal thoughts only began after you started taking the fluoxetine? Or have these thoughts been part of your depression all along? Some of the SSRI antidepressants can increase suicidal thoughts in some people. It's very important that you talk to your doctor about this. Maybe fluoxetine isn't the right drug for you. There are other meds that can treat OCD and depression. Don't give up hope, both disorders are very treatable. I wish you the best, you'll be fine.

Material posession's are not necessarily what life is about, and you can have it all, but still feel completely empty and dissatisfied with yourself and your life. Sortof like the first buddha; he was a prince and had it all, yet he still gave up everything he had, and fled the castle in pursuit of a better way of life. I personally do not have any religious affiliation, I was referring to the buddha to prove a point. The point is that things can appear to be peachy and nice on the exterior, but the real problem is your mind.

Buying a new wardrobe, marrying a rich man, or getting double d breast implants is not going to make you feel better about yourself completely. You can have a big house and all the materials you've ever wanted and still be suicidal, because again, your mind makes things this way. Why exactly are you suicidal? I definetly cant tell you. But the one thing I do not recommend is paying for a prescription drug for the rest of your life. These drugs only suppress the symptoms of your problems, and in addition, there are side effects of the drug that will come up that your doctor may want to prescribe a NEW prescription drug for.

The western doctors arent helping you because they do the quick fix. In and out like cattle.

Prozac(fluoxetine) has effects on suicidal ideationin younger people on some occassions it seems. It would be wise to getoff this medication. There are many other excellent antidepressants available for chemical imbalances in the brain.
It needs to be determined whether you need an SSRI or a MOAI or even a tricyclic antidepressant which aren't used as often as they use to be. The doctors love handing out these newfangled drus for some stupid reason.
A good AD that doesn't get used much anymore is Imipramine. I have seen Wellbutrin work much better in young people like yourself, rather than Prozac.
Bottom line is that you need help coping with your suicidal ideation before it's too late.
Don't ever rule out the power of prayer either. It saved me. I kid you not, a Bible study at this time in your life could do more that 50 psychiatrists because their answers are short term bandaid solutions, not the everlasting solutions that God offers for the taking.
But you definitely need a change in meds. Are you just depressed a lot or do you ever go on crazy spurts of exaggerated energy with sleep loss? If so, it sounds like Bipolar disorder rather that OCD. In that case, try lithium. It is my drug of choice and keeps me stabilized.
You're in my prayers. God Bless and thanks for reading.

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear that. Well yes, I have been though it when I was younger and went though living it for 10 years. Not only there were violence but sexual abuse as well. I too did try killing myself but it didn't work. Thank god it didn't! You may feel that now because you think you don't have a reason to live and nobody cares for you. I used to sing to myself "i'm nobody's child" and cry... Well, we all have a reason and a purpose to live and taking your life will just make you feel even weaker than you already are now. You've got to be strong. It is not easy but I got out of it. Believe me, no one can really help you but YOU yourself. I had a dog that I leaned on to, cried to and talked to. It helped me coz I needed to talk to someone and couldn't because I was ashamed. Pouring your sadness out can help so it doesn't necessary be a person. Animals usually can give you comfort and heal pain. It worked for me. I hope it works for you. Or Try finding a hobby or something that you like to do to not think about it.

You need to discuss this with your doctor/psychiatrist. It took 2 psychiatrists to find the right combination of medications to help me with my problem (Bipolar Disorder) which has it's phases of depression. I have tried suicide 3 times, and I'm glad it didn't work. So tell the doctor whom is prescribing that med. to you how your felling, because suicide is not the answer.

Everything will be all right, sweetie. Just relax. There IS help out there for you. Sometimes it just takes a while to find the right kind of help. Everyone is different. That's why there are so many different treatments out there.

What I would recommend for right now is to call or visit the doctor who prescribed you the fluoxetine and tell him or her of your difficulties. If you are having suicidal thoughts, your doctor will most definitely want to know of them. He or she should then be able to tell you how to feel better--if you call, (s)he may want to schedule an appointment to see you, so be prepared for that. (S)he may also switch you to another drug, so be prepared for that as well.

Just call your doctor. That's all you've got to do.

Good luck, and hope you feel better soon.

you need a med adjustment or change....I take zoloft and began to have very vivid images in my head of me blowing my head off...and I HATE guns...I could see, smell and taste it....I went to a psychiatrist and she gave me bupropion...after a week or so I was changing over my laundry and BAM I realized that the thought had stopped...completely stopped...I could think of it but by no means did it reach me on even close to the same level as before....get your meds checked....and there is no such thing as being briefly abused...you either have been or have not....and trauma plays into our whole mind set but you need some "immediate" help to keep you afloat...ask for meds and some sort of counselling or find something to help you cope....I answered your other question so read that too....hang in there chickie...it is all good...if all else fails...this community is here...and sometimes writing is the best therapy...peace
