Because we (parents and society) make life too easy for them.

Too many parents are too busy to take notice their teenagers need the exercise. There should be certain times for being on the computer, playing video games and while daylight teens should be out walking, running etc, getting the exercise they need. Lazy teens usually make lazy young adults.

Too many "lazy" things for them to do now-a-days: TV with 400 channels, 10 video-game systems with thousands of games, cell-phones, laptops, pcs, and a bunch of parents who dont tell there kids to go outside and play on the swings. There's aslo easy and cheap access to fast food more so than there is to healthy food. If they had all this crap in the 50's then the 50's kids would be just as lazy and obese.

Because nowdays there are too many good things on television. There are lots of good video games for them to play also. So while they are sitting on the couch playing video games or watching tv..they are neglecting their 30 minute walk and gaining weight like crazy.

If kids would just walk for 30 minutes after they get off from school (or do it before they go to school in the morning) then there would be a Very big difference in the obesity/diabetic statistics in teens.

Also if they would just replace soda with water, kool aide, and tea..

Replace potato chips with fat free pretzels and carrot sticks, and learn to order the grilled chicken sandwich at McDonald's instead of a burger or breaded chicken..that would also help out alot!

lack in disicpline, parents are to blame aswell, if the parent cant set a good example then the kids are going to turn out the same as them. if they feed there kids junk food then they will grow up eatting like that too. Parents need to get active with kids, doing things with them like going for a walk to the park, going for a picnic, taking up sports, take up a hobbie with the children. Most parents are so full of themselves they often can only worry about themselves, children are still leanring about life, if adults do not teach them how to live and eat correctly then they wont because they dont know how too. you cant expect teenages to want to learn about eattin good and exercising when they have A sony and an Xbox to play with. Teenages dont worry about the things adults worry about they dont have age spots or wrinkles or bills or loan repayments, they dont care about exercise because its not a concern to them yet. I think schools should be doing more and parents.

Blame it on the high technology...

I feel like I am dating myself..but when I was younger..we only had one tv and it was in the living room..it was not a color tv. It did not have a remote and fancy gadgets.

We played outside more...there was no computers and things that made us stationary. Everything we did made us move. whether we walked to the bus or school and to the store. there weren't as many cars, etc.

Everyone didn't have phones and there were no cell phones..there were pay phones..and you usually had to walk to them to use them. there were phones in our houses..but you could only really stand in one room and stretch the cord...lol...

the society was different...i miss it! it was so much easier then..but also so much different that people exercised!Hard to believe that as the world got better..it is worse for us!

Not all teens are lazy.
I'm constantly on the move. I'm overwieght, a bit, yes (i was brought up to love eating), but I used to do tons of sports in high school, and now I chase my little brother around and run three miles a day.
And I know many, many teens like me.

I agree w/ the all the playstations and other technology but what about the parents who complain about the kids having to do to much in gym class? When I was in school I got an F for not participating and my mother didn't go to the school to put up a fight.

Society has made it too easy to be lazy. Why get off your azz when you can sit in front of a computer, tv or game system all day long?

Blame television and video games. There's no problem with these if they are balanced with exercise and physical activity, but if all a kid does is watch the tube and play games you can expect his butt to grow a little.
