Why do you go around trying to disprove people's religions? Some believ in a God, you guys don't. Big deal. You don't have to go around making fun of religious people [as seen in many examples in this section], calling them 'brainwashed' and wha tnot. It's not like they're actually gonna go "You know what, you're right. There is no God." There's about as much a chance of that as a religious person converting one of you by typing in CAPSLOCK through the computer. Just let it go. When we all die someday, we'll all find out the truth one way or another....

You ask this as if religion were some benign fact of life, mere wallpaper, something common and trivial in its consequences like cheap napkins at a Denny's.

And there's that which is known. At the end of the day, when we see the leaders, public or anonymous, of our major religions, we see individuals not so much concerned about their supposed ultimate goals( helping the faithful get closer to their deities, shepherding the flock, blah, blah blah); when we see these leaders leading us to wars over resources in the name of Jesus (and all those Benjamins); other visionaries ridding plots of land they fancy for themselves of undesirables chosen to bear the brunt of crimes they've not committed; when we see a massive apparatus of indoctrination that is literally a country tell its faithful that their kids' cherished genitalia is a bit less important than the cash register at the local arch-diocese; when we see these pillars of the community use their imaginative and sanguinary texts to tell us distracted passersby how to live, act, and be, then, love, we've a problem.

This had nothing to do with any gods you may believe in; believing in some higher-power is innocuous and inconsequential. However, to take this and use it as a centerpiece for running people's lives, that is an issue. One needn't go much further than the past five years to see the damage religion continues to afflict upon a huge amount of people: Christians freely bombing, starving, and murdering hundreds of thousands of already sanction-crippled people, Jews emulating South African Apartheid (and no, I don't need Jimmy Carter to know this), Muslims freaking out about comic strips, Evangelicals telling me I needn't worry about global warming and all that "hippie nonsense" because the Lord will soon be here so I can avoid a mutated Kevin Costner in the future from coming to my rescue.

Religious folks, in this era of increased danger of nuclear war, of a rapidly rotting planet, and of a deranged public relations campaign we almost chidingly call a democracy and to which we entrust our future, religious folks are fast becoming a problem, especially with their apparent lack of self-criticism and their shameless posturing that exudes a rot of self-righteousness that, should we not take care, will surely lead us all to one gargantuan mass-grave.

So we should not defend our beliefs and let people make us out to be whatever you feel like. Christians and Muslims push there truths in every country they can get there hands on. Christians have bin paying poor afghans to convert to Jesus. I think our truth need to be defended. Also i think no Christan has a right to get ride of real science in the class room. I feel Creation science is worth as much the theory of a flat earth. You religions people are rewriting science to fit your own twisted world. I want no part of it.

Nothing personal. I just feel we have a right to act on what we think is the truth.

Not a big deal? What planet do you live on?

Just look around you! In the name of God, or Allah, or whatever, people are flying planes into buildings and blowing themselves up in crowded marketplaces. Now, we have to worry that Osama might get the bomb.

I have every right to be concerned. Religious ignorance and superstition threaten my life and the life of my 10-year-old son.

Religious nutcases are invading his schools and our government. Instead of science, they want my son to learn fairytales about the origin of life and the universe. They've already taken over the White House and much of Congress, which purports to represent me. They are pushing a ridiculous and dangerous agenda that should offend all rational people.

It's time for the silent minority to speak up and say enough is enough!

When someone thinks that the star of the movie Star Wars was William Shatner and you know they're wrong, you would tell them so because you don't want them to look foolish. If you tell me that you believe that eating pop rocks and drinking soda will make your head explode and I can show that you're wrong, would you still believe? No. You would adopt the opposite opinion on the matter because you were shown to be in error.

It's the same thing with people who believe in superstition. We try to convince you that you're wrong, because you are and we don't like people to look foolish. It's our desire to educate you. So you should be thankful that people are taking the time to tell you that Mark Hamil is in fact the star of the movie Star Wars.

People will believe what they want, but honestly I think you are being bias on what you chose to read on here. There are just as many Christians putting down atheism. Why do you come here? It isn’t like you are going to change anyone’s mind. I suppose that passionate people sometimes say things in the heat of passion they may not mean.

This is a hypocritical question, really and in fact, it isn’t a question. What is your beef with atheism?

I'm not trying to pick on you, but this is what you want. It's what you are asking for by asking a question like this.

Though I don't like to look down upon people who believe in things different from myself, I find it necessary to stand toe-to-toe with the more arrogant and foolish of religious people who don't recognize another persons right to believe what they want. I'm the kind of person who would ask someone to step outside if they angered me.

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!

I haven't met a real atheist yet. I have met a lot who claim to be, but they all say, "...and if there is a God..."
I am not here to prove anything to anyone. I know He is real. Those who don't -- well, I am sorry for them that they are missing out on a great relationship.
About the science thing... science is always proving things in the Bible to be true. Some need to actually do their Science homework before spouting off...
About knowing -- anyone with their eyes closed may say that there is no sun, but anyone who is lying on the beach soaking it up, knows better. Anyone who seeks to know Him, will find Him.

Why do christians try to tell the atheists stuff that's not even true? There is no truth that is known about the afterlife.

However, I'm a polytheist, and polytheists have been around for MUCH longer than monotheists.

i suppose when religious folks (Fundy Christians specifically) stop consigning nonbelievers to hell, stop seeking to enforce their religion's brand of morality, stop trying to undermine scientific research, stop trying to create an American theocracy, stop whining about being "persecuted" when they're teased on a public forum, stop insulting Atheists, Agnostics and folks of differing faiths, stop complaining about "the war on Christmas" (which isn't really even a Christian holy day anyway), stop trying to censor what is put on the shelves of public libraries, stop trying to insert mythology in the public school science class, stop trying to dictate to women what they can and can not do with their own bodies, stop persecuting gay people etc etc that will be the time when Atheists stop teasing Fundy Christians (and other religious zealots) for being brainwashed busybodies.

PS. not an Atheist.

Yeah, I don't, big deal, so maybe some should stop trying to make me believe THEIR way, back off, and stop being rude.
