Regret is what one feels when (s)he has done something and wishes (s)he hadn't. Guilt, however, does not necessarily include regret. You may have had an extra piece of chocolate cake and feel guilty about it but not want to have not had it. If you had it to do all over again, you would do the same thing. You may feel bad about it, but c'est la vie. If, however, you clobbered your partner over the head because you were angry with him and it turned out that you gave him a big bump, you would regret your actions; you'd wish you hadn't hit him. Anyway, that's my take on it.
