for your kids?
My son recently turned 3. we had a dan zanes and freinds themed party where everyone was asked to wear some fun and loud clothes or funny hats. We made a paper mache curtains that led to the area where we provided pizza, cake and ice cream.
We also had a lcd projector ( loaned ) to show the dan zanes and friends fun dances on our living room wall so the kids could dance and stuff.

I overheard one of the parents from my sons class say omg I couldnt even imagine doing all this for my son.
I didnt even spend alot of money, we made most of the stuff ourselves.
So what do you do for your kids parties, im curious if we are the only ones who put a little effort and imagination into our childrens parties

I go all out for my girls b-days too! For my daughters 3rd b-day we did Dora the Explorere theme. For my other daughter's b-day we did Tinkerbell. I love the site www.birthdaypartyideas.com
My daughter's b-day is not until May, but we are already planning it. She wants a Kim Possible theme so I watch for stuff on sale/clearance that we can use. I also make a lot of the decorations up as well. I say, who cares, as long as you have fund and your kids do too! My girls are getting old enough that they love to help decorate and get ready for the party. Don't forget to take lots of pictures of the party too so you can admire all your hard work!

most people i know have family parties with cake & ice cream... nothing extravagant for the little ones. they will have a hat for the kid & a small theme on the table cloth or something.

once they get older, the parents might have a little party for their friends-- but typically nothing extravagant. occasionally, if parents do go out of the way, they have a party at chuckie cheese or build-a-bear.

the parents probably had no idea that you did all that yourself & spent the time to do it. they probably don't have the creativity or time that you have. they might have been a bit jealous that they couldn't/wouldn't pull off the party that you did.

who cares what they think! if you can do it, then do it!

Every year I do a party for my girls, depending on the age it will depend on how big it is and the theme. But I always go all out. Not only do I get everything I can find in relation to the theme, but I also make stuff.

The one year I did a teddy bear picnic. First I made an invitation with the picture of my daughter on it with all her teddy bears around her holding a sign that said "I'm turning 4" . I had all the kids come with their teddy bears where I had laid out red and white cloths on the ground for them to sit. I made sandwiches in the shape of teddy bears, We had a Teddy bear pinata. I made teddy bear ears for all the kids out of brown pom poms and chenille sticks and hot glue, and the girls ones had pink bows. I had also made the favors out of paper lunch bags, which I rolled down to make the shape of a honey pot and painted them blue and wrote "HONEY" on them, then I used a golden yellow paint and painted inside of them and dripped paint down the edge to look like honey and I filled it with gummy bears, teddy grahams, teddy bear erasers and pencils and bubbles and topped it with yellow shredded paper. They really looked like Winnie the pooh honey pots. No one could believe that I spent all that time for just a party. My kids loved it, I have great pics and video and great memories for life with the kids having a blast and singing along with the teddy bear picnic song that I played while playing a game that I played as a kid called "pass the package", in which the kids pass a package around, when the music stopped, they would tear off one layer of paper and take the prize that came out(I put a teddy themed prize between each layer of wrapping paper, enough for all the kids) Whoever gets a prize steps out and the game continues until the package is empty.
Great fun, and its worth the work for the smiles on their faces, so no you're not alone in working hard to throw a fun bash!!:)
