In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

No absolutely not it is not possible that God cannot destroy satan, and he will do so at his appointed time Satan and his demons will all be destroyed and for good, at the time designated by God, There is no need for evil to be and exist, you can definately know what is good without evil existing, satan and his demons will be bound up in an abbyss for a period of time then they will be let loose again for a very short time, before they suffer total destruction, never to exist again, ever! and the things that you hear in church may not be what the Bible says, yet the Bible is the only place where you will get the real truth, in the Bible God's Word. No, satan
will be destroyed for good along with his fallen angels or demons anf all his followers, so there will be a total destruction of all evil forever! Evil will not be allowed, ever again because Satans wicked challenge will have been totally answered once and for all!

Satan cannot be destroyed because he is a spirit being. The Bible says that physical things are temporal (temporary), but spiritual things are eternal (II Cor 4:18). What you have heard about them being bound, cast into the abyss, etc is correct, BECAUSE they cannot be destroyed. You said you have a problem accepting an existence without evil. Heaven will be an existence without evil. Do you have a problem accepting that concept? Probably not. Evil, in itself, does not exist, Evil is merely the absence of God. The same principal exists with cold, and darkness, They do not exist, of themselves. Cold is the absence of heat. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness can never ovewhelm light. When the light leaves, darkness is what is left behind. When God leaves, all the "good" leaves with Him. What is left is evil.
Adam only knew good until he disobeyed God. The spirit of God left him...he died spiritually, and what was left was evil. But you will notice that God did not stop loving him, even though he had committed spiritual treason. He gave a man a free will to choose to obey or disobey. We face the same choices everyday.

The Bible speaks of a time when satan will be bound for a thousand years and the lion will lie down with the lamb.
God can destroy satan, make no doubt but when the angel shall set one foot on the land and one on the sea and declare that time shall be no more, he then gets tossed into the lake of fire and brimstone for a dose of his own for eternity.
Notice that Jesus, His bride the true church, and all the angels spend eternity in heaven with God and the Holy Ghost where Jesus Christ Himself shall be the light. Two polar opposites, good and evil shall exist separately then for the rest of eternity.

Blessings Brother,
I hope that you are comforted by the fact that Satan will be defeated and sentenced to suffer eternity in a burning torturous hell as soon as the time is right for the Lord to return and win this evil battle once and for all. Read the book of Revelations or Daniel for further proof.
May God Bless You

Satan is definately not here to stay. He will be locked away for 1,000 years and during that time will be unable to influence man in any way. Then, he will be let loose for a short period only after all humans on earth have reached perfection. After all have chosen who they prefer to follow, he will be destroyed permanantly in the second death as will everyone who has chosen to follow him instead of God. The Bible says "he who endures to the end is the one who will be saved." Do not lose hope. Trust me--earth without Satan will be anything but boring!!

Well I don't think killing Satan would do anything (if he in fact can be killed), the important thing is to defeat the sin he infected in mankind, and God has already taken care of that through Jesus Christ. What Christ did ultimately destroys Satan.

Are you a Christian in name only?
Spelling god for God?
Satan will not be here forever, as there is a place reserved for him in Hell, where he will be bound and tortured.
When that happens this world will be no more - and eternity will
be changed forever! Will you be serving the King of Kings - or
accompanying ha-Satan?

Satan will always exist as a spirit being (no body) but in the end, will be very much separated from others - forced to live eternity in an undesireable and dark place.
As you said in so many words, there must be opposition in all things,or we would not know the good from the bad.
