According to home theater magazines and CNET, the best brand from a image quality perspective is Panasonic. The 42" or 50" will suffice. If your viewing distance is less than 10 ft, then get the 42". If it is 10 ft or more, then get at least a 50". Panasonic's blacks are the deepest, which seems to be difficult with many plasma manufacturers. The problem with Panasonic is that you pay $500+ more compared to other brands.

If you are looking for best bang for your buck, then it would have to be the Zenith/LG Electronics line. They are the same company, but their product features vary. LG tends to be a tad more expensive than the Zenith. I personally have the Zenith 50" plasma because it was cheaper than the LG equivalent. The blacks are excellent and it was affordable. It originally retailed for $3499 and I got it for $2000 earlier this year after negotiating with a Circuit City rep. Now, the tv goes for close to $1500. $1500 for a 50" plasma is an unbelievable price.

My only complaint about the TV is that it has one HDMI. Some plasmas have two HDMI. Otherwise, the TV is perfect. I have a Comcast HDTV DVR, progressive DVD player, computer and Xbox connected. HDTV and HDMI is breathtaking.

Don't let people persuade you that LCD is better. Plasma has much better colors and is the better technology for video.
