I'm not an atheist, but I wanted to say, Madalyn Murray O'Hair... could you pick anyone more culturally out of date? You're not going to find any atheists talking about her. I'm assuming you got her name from an out of date anti-atheist Bible tract or book. Live in the now!

Madalyn Murray O'Hair was very passionate about her atheism. She worked hard to open up discussion about atheism in America and for that she should be remembered. Sadly she was murdered.

A hero is someone that in spite of great danger to oneself refuses to follow other people's thinking. Freedom of thought is the hallmark of a hero, even in the face of adversity or under the threat of being punished in this or the next world by anyone. All the people who were tortured and murdered during the Christian Inquisition were heroes. They committed one infraction: they dared to think on their own.
All the people who advanced science and explorations are heroes. They, too, dared to search for the truth in spite of adversities, prejudice, or oppression.
There is no record of any single or group of scientists ever getting together and use torture or burn someone alive because he chooses to believe in some god. The opposite is not the case in every major religion the sentiment of faith in something has prompted a group to murder people of different persuasions.

No. Carl Sagan is my hero, and I'm also a big fan of Richard Dawkins and George Carlin.

No, Richard Dawkins is my hero. lol
Madelyn Murray O’Hare is alright though. I think she got a bad rap sometimes. She was very stubborn and believed strongly in Atheism. It's sad the way she died.
Richard Dawkins does rock though
David:
I know that deep down inside you know that Richard Dawkins is a world renowned biologist and author of several books.
PS: I wasn't the one that gave you a thumbs down. I don't ever do that.

Not really, I don't know all that much about her except that she is a famous atheist. I like Richards Dawkins though. He's right on.

No. Kind people who try to make a difference in the world with the resources availiable to them instead of hoping for some supreme being to fix the damage they caused are my heros.
