Pride fighting, UFC or some other organization, and why?

Where to begin?

Pride Fighting Championships has better fighters overall, with a deeper talent pool in most weight classes (except welterweight of course). The tournaments are the most exciting programs to watch in all of MMA (who saw the grand prix finals this year?). The round system shows which fighters are better prepared.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has a better ring or cage. As an American, I am more partial to the fighters, which are perdominantly American (Pride's are Japanese) and to Chuck Lidell (my favorite fighter). While Pride has the better fighters, the UFC has a lot of new fighters, which diversifies the talent pool and explains why the UFC is catching up with Pride in terms of talent.

Both are great organizations and the difference is like choosing between the NFC and the AFC. I do believe that the UFC is the future of MMA. Pride was the best organization with the best fighters because Japan sanctioned MMA first, and thus got the big money and the big contracts first. The UFC is gaining a huge fan base and MMA is becoming more of a mainstream sport here in the states. I see it eventually enveloping Pride and taking away the better fighters, as Pride has had some financial problems of late.

I would like to say that I will be ordering UFC 66 on December 30th, as well as Pride's Shockwave on December 31st.

I agree with some of the others. I believe that Pride is better top to bottom, that being said UFC has some great individual fighters. If you go to mmaranks.com, it may help you determine who is the better organization. It list the top fighters in the world according to several different criteria, and allows you to see which organization they fight in. It also breaks it down into weight classes. Have fun, it's an pretty interesting and informative site.

I'm pretty equally split between the two, although I do get to see more UFC - I'm not a fanboy for either at the expense of the other, because quite simply I just love MMA (and that goes for KOTC, Cage Rage, Shooto and all the others). I wouldn't disagree that Pride has had a slightly better talent pool in recent years (Wanderlei, Cro Cop, Fedor and Rampage in particular) but I've always felt MMA functions better in a cage - that way, fighters aren't getting tentative because there's no gaps to spill over or through, which there would be if it's just ropes.

The weight class makes a MASSIVE difference too. Look at the heavyweights in PRIDE. Any one of the top 5 in Pride would annihilate any heavyweight in the UFC. Look at the middleweights and light heavyweights in the UFC. They'd dominate the PRIDE fighters. I just wish PRIDE would get more TV time. It's HUGE HUGE HUGE in Japan. It would be huge here too if they'd show it.

I like them about the same, but I think Pride is stronger competition top to bottom, but UFC is catching up.
