I recieved an email a few days ago entitled "how the left stole christmas" (you can read the poem here--http://hernandoccc.blogspot.com/2006/12/how-left-stole-christmas.html) from a member in a yahoo women's group. I responded that it was very offensive and that it was expressing a lack of respect for other faith's celebrations (being a Christian married to a Jew and celebrating Christmas and Chanukah). Would you have said something, ignored and deleted it? What, if anything, would you have done?

My family and I have always celebrated Christmas...however for the past year and a half I've been dating a Jewish girl and it's opened my eyes. Frankly, I found out this time of year sucks if you aren't a Christian (in this country at least). Everything becomes Christmas. Everything. I have no problem with stores and people for that matter, that are more inclusive and say "Happy Holidays" rather than just "Merry Christmas." If you are one of those people who get mad at that think about this: that feeling you feel when someone/store "excludes" Christmas by saying "Happy Holidays" instead...well that's how Jews, Muslims, Buddhists...etc. feel when they are bombared by Christmas. It sucks. Flat out. It makes them feel like they are weird and strange. Christ would not care if Macy's people say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." He would care about people being so self involved in such trivial matters that they'd send hateful emails or get angry at a cashier who is only doing his/her job (as their employer tells them) when they say "Happy Holidays." Remember the meaning of the holidays (whatever that may be for you) and move on with your lives. When all the world's more pressing problems are solved (hunger, war, disease) THEN we can all get together and solve the great X-Mas debate. Until then, let's all worry about other more important things.

I always ignore those e-mails; just hit delete once I read the first line or so and figure out that it's offensive and insulting, and I never respond. Chances are that whoever sent it to you was trying to get a rise out of you, so try not to give him or her the satisfaction. I am part of an online "prayer group" where people offer prayers for each other; most of the people involved are highly conservative and never realized that I was a lone leftist among them, even though I am religious, too. They would send me a lot of horrible stuff bashing the left; only once I lost my temper and fired back an e-mail saying "don't send me anything like that ever again." The rest of the time I just hit "delete" and ignored it. You'll waste less energy that way. Good luck and God bless. By the way, have you heard about the book called "Christmaskah." It's supposed to be a delightful account of celebrating both holidays.

i am going on a females's in basic terms trip in October to St Thomas. there will be 8 people-quite often married females going for 5-7 days. My sister is turning 50 and he or she needed to do something very particular, so she planned the trip. She invited in basic terms a pair of ladies, in spite of the shown fact that it has blossomed into 8. My husband very lots inspired me to pass, and he even offered the value tag together with his typical flier miles. i may be indignant and disenchanted if my husband gave me a hard time approximately going, especially through fact the only reason he products is because you will get "hit on" via somebody there. And what, you ought to no longer withstand? or you ought to no longer get hit on regionally on the positioned up workplace or industry or everywhere else? i might tell him i replaced into going, i might clarify that he has no longer something to agonize approximately, and that i might factor out that the single and in basic terms reason i'm married to him is via the fact i choose for to be. it quite is unlike you're married to him because you haven't any longer have been given the different concepts-you're making a call on a daily basis to stay married, basically as you're making a call on a daily basis to stay dedicated-and that doesn't exchange despite in case you're in Ohio or Barbados. I permit him stew on that somewhat and initiate making plans my trip.

If I were a righty, I would launch a massive women's protest against the site and speak out some nonsense about politics that my oh so rich husband tells me every night at dinner over caviar and fine wine.

Be the better man (or woman, I don't know) and ignore it.

Some insults don't even deserve to be dignified with a response.

I ignore and delete the majority of emails that I receive from certain people. After the first couple of lines, I can tell if it is offensive and I don't waste my precious time fretting about it.
I just get rid of it and go on with my life.

Personally, I would be offended if a friend, who knew my religious beliefs are not christian, sent this to me. This being sent to a group, it was not intended to be directed at you personally, but just a thoughtless forwarded e-mail. This poem is intolerant of other peoples' beliefs and I believe as you did, I would make an appropriate, well thought out comment as to my feelings of it. We have many cultures and beliefs intermingling. If we wish to have peace in this world, we need to accept that all those cultures and beliefs are not necessarily what the majority believes.

I don't really know what you are offended by. It is standing up for the celebrating of Christmas. So many of the stores anymore won't allow their help to say Merry Christmas, nor will they decorate. I for one will not spend my money at a place that won't even acknowledge it.

I would have ignored it, then deleted it. Then I would have thanked God we live in a country with freedom of religion, press, and speech.
