The Newgrange Megalithic Passage Tomb in Ireland, estimated at 5,000 years of age, was constructed so that the inner chamber is illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. The structure is older than Stonehenge by a few centuries and it's estimated that it would have taken a crew of 300 at least 20 years to build it.
Who knows how long the observance of such preceded the construction of the celestial clock? The Bighorn Medicine Wheel in Wyoming is also aligned with celestial occasion in mind, so the observance itself bridged cultures unknown to one another for who knows how many millenium.................. speaking of bridges.....

the Celtic Pagans can trace an oral history back for over 10,000 years.

the Native Americans (not actually celebrating it but knowing when it was and the signifigance of it) can trace theirs back over 15,000 years.
