I'm a newlywed getting ready to start a family. My husband and I are really interested in the Xterra, but the warranty isn't so great. It's only 3 years/36,000 miles...Anyone know how well this vehicle runs after a years?

Its not exactly the best family vehicle. I am sure it will run fine for years but its more for off road enthusiasts or those that want to look like off road enthusiasts. If you want an SUV type vehicle there are many many choices. One more thing, dont fall for this perception that Japanese vehicles are given to us by God and therefore are the best. It isnt true. Go check out the new Ford Edge. Looks like a great family vehicle.

The X terra is a great SUV and has a large club following.. but it will use a lot of gas.. they are great off road but thirsty.. I would look at a Toyota Highlander or Rav 4 for more family type driving. Also the Honda CR V and Element are good an more gas friendly

as far as safety goes, the Xterra's are amazing. one of my friends was in a terrible accident while driving one. the xterra was hit by a 18 wheeler, it rolled several times, ended up sitting on its roof. my friend only had minor bruses!! she got another xterra.
