This seems to be a grey area. But I always tip the standard 15%. I even tipped the waiters in buffet restaurants.

I tip my hairdresser, and he is the salon owner. He charges 45 for a cut, and I usually give him 55 to 75, depending on my finances. He has some major bills there, and a mooching wife and her family living off him, so I don't mind. Of course, he's a personal friend for 20 years, too, and no way can I just offer to help him out; he'd never take it.

Yes you should. You tip the person based on the great work and the time spent on your hair. Should not be based on if the person is an owner or not. I would tip 15% of your total cost.

i never do. haircuts are so expensive! and you tip someone for doing something above and beyond their basic duty. a hairdressers job is to cut my hair. i imagine if i came across someone who was really sweet and talked to me personally about what would make me look better and wpent a whole lot of time trying out different things with my hair then i may tip for the first time. but this hairdresser would have to be pretty impressive. in that case i would tip the same amount as i do a waitress, 15 to 20 percent of the bill.

If the owner worked on you , sure....they deserve a tip too...how much its up to you, 18 to 20 percent is usually the amount to tip...but that is entirely up to you as to percentage.

yes or put the tip in an envelope and leave it with the receptionist if you feel it's awkward to give it straight to the owner.. but tell the owner you're leaving something with the receptionist so she can decide if she'll take it or split it amongst her employees.
