The term cold war was used during the 1930's to describe Nazi Germany's methods of conquering nations with little fighting. The term is used to describe the struggle between the Communist nations and the democratic nations.

Russian troops occupied North Korea and the U.S. forces occupied South Korea. The North had a very strong army with military aid from Russia. North Korean troops invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, and the war began. President Truman sent American forces to aid the South Koreans. At the request of the U.S., United Nations Security Council voted to send UN troops to help South Korea. Peace talks began and lasted two years while bloody fighting continued. In July 1953, the Communists signed a truce.

The Korean War was the first war in which troops of a world organization fought against Communism. It was a Major turning point in the Cold War. It introduced limited warfare to the East-West conflict, with each side limiting the weapons it used and the territory in which it would fight. Each avoided attacking targets which could have led to an all out "hot war" that could have included nuclear missiles.

The Korean War was the HOT part of the Cold War. From 1950-1953 the US and the USSR/China fought , through proxy on the penisular of Korea. Officially , this was a UN action. The UN (mainly backed by the USA in South Korea) fought the North Koreans (mainly backed by the USSR and China). To say that the Chinese did not enter the Korean War is both true and false. Once the UN pushed the North Koreans back to the Chinese boarder, China entered the war on the North Korean side, though not officially. Chinese MiGs fought over the skies of Korea. To say that it was purely volunteers who fought from China on the side of the North Koreans is somewhat flawed --- was volunteer can enter a war with his own modern war plane? The effecs of this 3 year war are still being felt today. The 38th parallel is the most heavily militarized zones on the planet. North Korea and South Korea are still , technically at a state of war since the end of the Korean War did not end in a treaty, merely a cease fire arrangement. My Grandfather fought in the Korean War after having fought in WW2. My Father-in-Law also fought in the Korean War.

Japan was in control of Korea since 1905. After losing in WW2, the Allies divided it up at the 38th parallel. Then when the cold war started right afterward, the communist's set up North Korea, and the US helped in creating South Korea. In 1950, the communists tried to take control by invading the south. The US helped the south and China in the north. After 3 years, the last 2 being a stalemate, they signed a cease-fire and maintained the status quo. But you can say the US and S. Koreans won because they pushed the invading north out.

After the second world war both Russia and America was encroaching to other countries to increase their sphere of influence and that is what we now call Cold war.
In 1950 North Koreans with the blessing and support or Russia and China encroached to South Korea and started occupying the country, similar to the Kuwaiti invasion of Iraq in 1991.
UN had met and 15 country task force led by US attacked the north Korean occupation army with the local support of south Koreans. They pushed the north Koreans to 38th parallel and DMZ is created. War is still not declared closed even though there was no armed attacks since 1954.

The Korean War, occurring between June 25, 1950 and a ceasefire on July 27, 1953, was a war between the partition states of North Korea and South Korea that were created respectively out of the post-World War II Soviet and American occupation zones in Korea, with large-scale participation by other countries.

The principal support on the side of the North Korean communists was the People's Republic of China, with limited assistance by Soviet combat advisors, military pilots, and weapons. South Korea was supported by United Nations (UN) forces, principally from the United States, although many other nations also contributed personnel. When conflicts began, North and South Korea existed as provisional governments competing for control over the Korean peninsula after the Division of Korea.

In South Korea, the war is often called 6·25, from the date of the start of the conflict or, more formally, Han-guk Jeonjaeng (한국전쟁 "Korean War"). In North Korea, it is formally called the Fatherland Liberation War (조국통일전쟁). In the United States, the conflict was officially termed a police action — the Korean Conflict — rather than a war, largely in order to avoid the necessity of a declaration of war by the U.S. Congress. The war is sometimes referred to outside Korea as "The Forgotten War", because it is a major conflict of the 20th century that is rarely mentioned in public discourse. In China, the conflict was known as War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (抗美援朝), but is today commonly called the "Korean War"

It replaced into in actuality a conflict over idealogies (Communism vs Democracy). because they are in opposition economically, to no longer point out socially and morally, Japan could have been remoted interior the East if Korea replaced into thoroughly communist. We have been shoring up Japan after WWII and we've been in touch approximately our own protection besides. the assumption replaced into to grant protection and a finding out to purchase and promoting better half interior the East to no longer forget approximately that communism is fairly oppressive to freedom and enhance. people go through and people opt to unfold freedom and robust fortune (nicely some do). maximum persons are blind to some super reward of democracy to certainly everybody. it quite is not a suitable gadget yet is far greater suitable to communism. the end results of the war replaced into an armistice which exists to on the present time. I even have even heard comments of cannibalism between the ravenous people. of direction, the worst results of the North's communism is the Nazi like dictatorship, fascism, and the nuclear threat. There are some quite good books on the subject depend. additionally learn China's place interior the Korean war which extra approximately the stalemate.

The cold war was our race with the USSR for gloabal superiority, and the general american sentiment was that communism was the greatest evil the world has ever known, and politicians used fear of communists to control the nation. Sound familiar?

General Mcarthy swore that communism would not spread to one foot of "free" land, and the korean war was an enactment of this policy. it went alittle bit like this: we came to south korea to fight out the communist army, and managed to invade all of north korea. Mcarthy got alittle overzealous and started bombing china, because they are communists too. at least one million chinese soldiers came down in retaliation and took both north and south korea, and after a few more years of fighting, we took south korea back, and at the end of the war, the border was exactly where it was when it started. The korean war accomplished only one thing by it's end: lots of dead soldiers.

Russian was making a lot of inroads in taking over countries.

it was felt they were helping N korea in aggression against S koren, but it was done more as a war by proxy, so the US never directly fought the USSR or China.
