He may just be nervous, but to be on the safe side you probably should take him to the vet.

The nose has nothing to do with whether its sick or not.. old wives tale.. It could be anything that is causing him to pant.. Maybe he is used to being outside all the time and is just hot!

I would take the dog to the vet or to the humane society..Bringing a stray into your home is not a very good idea, it could have all kinds of things wrong with it and if you have other dogs it could make them sick as well.. Even children can be infected with some things that a dog can carry, like giarrdia and round worms..

There could be so many things, but if he has been out in the cold I would say pnemonia. Are you planning on keeping him? If so then take him to the vet. If not take him to the shelter and they can get him help. I have always been told that when a dogs nose is warm then they are sick in some way. I hope everything works out for you and him.

Find him an after hours emergency vet now. not tomorrow. Call your regular vet. Their recording should give you a # to call. Being a stray a vet visit shouldnt cost you anything, but you would be signing the dog over to them. The dog may have been poisoned. Or it could have something contageous. If you have other pets they can get it too.

Usually when an animial is visibly that ill its not good. It is in their instincts to not show weakness.

I once picked up a cat that did that. She had lukemia and was not getting any of the fluids she drank.....

VET NOW!!!

Unfortunately there can be problems with any dog you find. Someone may have dumped him because they thought or knew he was sick. Please do not expose him to other pets if you have any. Just in case.

I encourage you to call and schedule a vet visit this weekend if possible. It could be just issues of neglect oo in need of normal vetting to see what might be going on.

Pets are not ever free. Not if you want a healthy happy pet. No one here would be able to diagnose. Nose temp proves nothing.

He is probably experiencing the same symptoms that humans experience with anxiety. He is in a new place with new people. Breathing hard and panting is his way of showing signs of stress.

There could be such a large variety of possible problems with the poor baby. Your best bet is to take it to the vet and have it examined and treated. Being a stray, you can't know what might have happened to him.

He is sick. It sounds like he could have worms, especially heartworms (which are deadly), but it could be something else. Since he was a stray, he probably never received vaccinations.

The only thing you can do is get him to a vet ASAP.

He could be panting from nerves or from being hurt. Get him to the vet asap. He could be hurt like kicked or hit by a car or be sick (pneumonia, broken ribs).

Please take him to the vet ASAP, for his own sake and for that of any other possible dogs that you may have that could contract a disease from the sick dog. Don't let him be in pain, he's needs a vet.
