I lost the bookmark, but there are several of these sites on the web, I just don't know exactly what they're called. You can google for 'haircuts for square faces' and see what comes up, there has to be advice out there.

What I'm thinking of specifically is a site where you upload a picture of your face, and it lets you try out different looks - hairstyles, types of glasses, haircolors. The one I used was really good, but I have no idea who sponsored it. (Does anyone else know???)

BTW my face is square and I recently had my hair cut right to the bottom of my ears, cut short and layered a bit all around. It calls attention away from the square jaw and brings the focus onto my eyes now. It's curly/ wavy so it has some height, and it looks really good (except in high winds, when I tend to resemble Albert Einstein with dark hair, and no moustache).

To make a square face look oval, go slightly below the chin and layered, like a shorter version of the Rachel (from Friends).

Or, embrace your face's squareness and go with a short bob (between jaw length and ear length) a la Julia Stiles.

Try to look at some pictures of women with square shaped faces and short hair. You can get an idea of short hairstyles and how they would look on your face. Or, try to get layers in the back and see how it looks.

A good hair stylist will help you determine what will give you the look that best enhances your features and compliments your facial shape. Take time to choose wisely so you don't end up with a style you cannot manage. The most common problem in the salon is that customers want a style that is difficult to manage with the type of hair they have. Take texture, time and ability into consideration to get the best results.
